Weird day because I welcome the Races back. Not on a Saturday though as that equates to 50% decline in retail sales across the city on our or precious ‘banker day’ Midweek YES when the locals work and it brings a unique buzz but no no no Independent Retailers and Bars because it alienates locals. BUT SHOULD IT? All shops and most bars agree that between 1 & 5pm on a Saturday they could shut as local customers avoid the City. It’s actually the best time to come shopping as they’re all on the Race Course drinking so the roads and the city are quiet. Daytime midweek Race Days however are embraced by the Indies as locals are often busy working and the buzz brings the city to life. Who of our city stakeholders understand this conundrum?
Watergate Street, the street that keeps giving. Hand on heart after 25 years in this location I have never felt this buzz. Our street is different to all the rest and all I can say is come and feeel it.like a chilled holiday every day.
