Last night was Round 4 of the TeamSport Karting Grid Series.

The format was a 10 minute qualifying dictating the grid positions for a 15 minute sprint race. This was then followed by a one shot qualifying lap to determine grid positions for the 25 minute final. Qualifying positions determined which group you raced in; those qualifying 1st, 3rd, 5th etc went into group 1 and those in 2nd, 4th, 6th etc went into group 2. There were 17 of us competing in total.

The karts were a little better last night and there seemed to be more parity in the performance of most of the karts on track.

I qualified in 6th meaning I started 3rd in the group 2 sprint race. I got a decent grid start and managed to make my way up to 2nd behind . I kept the pressure on and was pretty much on her bumper for a lot of the race. She defended well and I made a decision not to make a move for 1st but try and secure a safe 2nd place.

In the one shot qualifying I came third in my group which meant I started 3rd on the grid for the 25 minute final behind Ella in 1st and Thomas Butler in 2nd. I managed to overtake Tom on the first corner as I got a slightly quicker start. By lap 2, I had made a clean overtake and moved up into 1st place. I pulled away from the group of four drivers behind me all jostling for position and managed to hold first place to the end of the race!

As I came 2nd in the sprint and 1st in the main race I came second in Lightweights last night. The points I received also bumped me up into second place for the Grid Series with just one more round to go.

Well done to who came first in lightweights in his sprint and final (we were in different groups) and Ella who came third. Well done to everyone who participated and the drivers who had a podium placing in their weight category (especially my Dad who came first in the heavyweights!)
