This week is Eating Disorders Awareness Week, so let's clear up some myths + facts about what exactly eating disorders are and how they affect people.
1. Eating Disorders are not a lifestyle choice or something people use to get attention.
2. Eating disorders affect people of ALL genders, races, socioeconomic statuses and body sizes. In fact, 1 in 4 people with an eating disorder are men.
3. Eating Disorders arenβt just about food, they also commonly occur with other mental illnesses including anxiety, OCD and depression.
4. Curing an eating disorder is not as simple as "just eating food". They have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness.
If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder, please reach out for help! Check out resources , too!

At a time of national mourning, I wanted to check in with you all and remind you to take care. Hearing about a loss can often remind us of our own personal grief and it's OK to take time, reflect and look after your self.
If you are feeling like you need to reach out, arrange a get together with friends and family. Or if you'd prefer, remember the Samaritans are there and you can call them free on 116123 or you can get in touch with Give us a Shout 24/7 by texting 'SHOUT' to 85258.
It's nearly September which means only one thing... back to school!
This can be a very overwhelming time for both young people and parents. Here are a few tips for supporting your child go back to school.
Good luck to everyone receiving results tomorrow!
There are less than 2 weeks left of the Summer Holidays so this is your reminder to do something that makes YOU happy π
Idea-zone: A place to think creatively about Mental Health and support We would like to know your creative ideas about supporting children and young people with their Mental Health in West Sussex. What can schools help with? What can West Sussex County Council do more of? How can local communities get involved?
Parents/Carers can play an important role in demonstrating how to manage thoughts and feelings with young people.
Remember to check in with yourself and how you feel!
FEEDBACK FRIDAY!
Our wonderful Education Mental Health Practitioner Cinzia has just finished working with a young girl in our Crawley area. Cinzia received a text message from her shortly after. Well done Cinzia (and what a lovely Birthday treat...Happy Birthday from all at Thought-Full!)!
BOOK RECOMMENDATION: Loren Jones has suggested this wonderful book about a boy called Yunjae, born with a brain condition called Alexithymia meaning it's nearly impossible for him to feel emotions like fear and anger. Loren described the book as a beautiful insight into his mind, and how he navigates life and tragic events to overcome adversity.
"It's a lovely, heart-warming story that really makes you think about what it means to be a person"
With the summer holidays in full swing we thought we should remind everyone to still try and find time for a bit of self care...
Have a Mindful Monday everyone!
