Nook Wellness Pods
Nook pods: quiet, mobile meeting & work pods which improve focus, well-being and improve connectivity between people. Great things happen in small spaces.
The first ever Biophilic Design Conference is at the Barbican Centre next Tuesday 12th November! đą
Bridging the gap between research and practice, attendees will discover how to use biophilic design in the workplace, schools, hospitals, and town planning, as well as how to retrofit biophilic design into the very fabric of our current buildings.
We couldnât be prouder of Journal of Biophilic Design for organising this and are proud to sponsor the event. Youâll find a beautiful Oak Nook there with one of Vanessa Championâs forest photographs on the back wall. As far events go, this really is one to attend if youâre passionate about making spaces that nurture our health and wellbeing. If you canât make it in person, the event is being live streamed so you donât miss out.
Hereâs how your space can welcome the local community âŹď¸
Incorporating local cultural elements creates a sense of belonging for the surrounding community, whilst also showing the business values and respects the local identity. Your space then feels more personalised, less generic, and demonstrates a sense of pride.
is a coworking space in Barcelona that has celebrated its location by putting a stunning wall decal of the Sagrada Familia on Nookâs back wall. We think it gives their coworking space a distinct brand identity that reflects the areaâs character, cleverly making the business stand out in a competitive market.
âWe take great pride in the fact that we are the first public library in New York State to offer an adaptable and inclusive space for neurodiverse childrenâ đ˝đ đ
Jessica Tymecki, Director of said, âthere is a growing need for a sanctuary and calming space that affords every child with the opportunity to be their best self.â
How wonderful is this?! Nook has helped New York state provide the first public library with an autism-certified resource! Just like weâre seeing here in the UK, libraries across the globe are working hard to offer inclusive environments for all their visitors and we couldnât be prouder đĽš

âA well-thought out and inclusively designed workspace can amplify the impact of diversity and inclusion initiatives, while a poorly designed one can undermine them, sending mixed signals to the workforce. So what can you do? How can you take steps to make your spaces more mindful of a variety of types of minds, work modes, preferences and needs?â
In Autumnâs issue of the Universal Workforce Magazine, Nookâs Founder .design shares how you can build an inclusive workplace. Jam-packed full of easy to implement advice, itâs well worth taking a few minutes to see what initiatives can be implemented in your workplace which you can find on our LinkedIn or Twitter page.
From mock up to pop up đ
Now that Autumn is upon us - Fall for our friends overseas - itâs time to think about providing warm and cosy spaces away from the blustery outdoors.
Scenic wall decals are a great way of incorporating biophilic design into the area, and this stunning forest photo by shows how easily a concept can become a reality. The below was one of several forest-themed Nooks at a few years ago, offering somewhere snug for attendees to relax throughout the event.

How to put wellbeing at the heart of a museum đ
Remember we mentioned working with to help support families, neurodivergent visitors, and anyone needing a quiet space to relax? Well check this out! đ
These Nooks have been hanging out in in Newcastle Upon Tyne, placed on the ground floor in the Ice Age to Iron Age gallery. The museum recently told us that people are really enjoying using it which is so great to hear. Theyâre also thinking about moving it to a different location to see if people prefer it there - an easy option since Nook pods are on wheels.
This is why it matters if your workspace is neuroinclusive:
1. Corporations identified as more diverse and inclusive are 35% more likely to outperform their competitors. (McKinsey)
2. Companies employing an equal number of men and women manage to produce up to 41% higher revenue. (Clear Company)
3. 74% of millennial employees believe their organisation is more innovative when it has a culture of inclusion, and 47% actively look for diversity and inclusion when sizing up potential employers. (Deloitte)
Nookâs Founder .design suggests that we can seamlessly include neurodivergent people that have previously felt excluded, simply by providing them the right space. Nooks are a certified Autism resource that helps brains settle and focus, without having to leave the office.
For many football fans the first game of the season will start this Saturday, but we want to make sure that everyone can enjoy the game.
Match days are great but they can be overstimulating for some fans. We loved working with a while back, providing a calming refuge for any neurodivergent families that might need somewhere to emotionally regulate during the game.
Want to see this at your club? Tag them in below and weâll see what we can do!
Some places might seem ordinary or unassuming on the outside, but to many, they are vital safe spaces, inclusive hubs that empower communities. Libraries, for example, do so much more beyond just lending books:
- Adult learning resources, including digital literacy courses and career development workshops.
- â Support for emigrants with cultural integration programs and language learning.
- â Intergenerational spaces, connecting people of all ages and fostering lifelong learning.
- â Resume workshops, job search tools and career support.
- â Support aspiring entrepreneurs and startups with business planning resources, networking opportunities and incubator spaces.
Itâs worth remembering that libraries are a cornerstone of diverse, inclusive communities, strengthening social connections and empowering individuals. When we invest in and care for our libraries, itâs an investment in a brighter, safer, more connected future for us all.
Nook is quiet.
Surprisingly quiet, in fact.
People say that itâs quiet, but before they do you actually see it on their faces;
That moment when someone slides into the seat and notices how the outside noise settles into a gentler hush.
Their eyebrows raise.
But it has no doors? Nope, it has no doors.
And yet the acoustics are so beautifully quiet that it enables calm, focus, and a space for all brains to soften.

This is how Nooks help students focus in school âŹď¸
Nook was created to help brains settle and focus. The ingredients of personal space, acoustics and adjustable lighting combine to create a withdrawal zone where people of all ages feel safe and calm. This in turn facilitates concentration and engagement. A Sensory Nook goes one step further:
- Vibrating seat pads help with ADHD and general muscle relaxation for improved focus
- Safety mirror on rear wall helps autistic people make eye contact to build better rapport
- LED light panels bathe the space in colour to influence the mood and the brainâs ability to process information

Drop in. Reset. Go again. 12 minutes is all it takes. provided a data report from the Recharge Zone at their Frankfurt event in May, confirming that on average attendees spent 12 minutes inside a Nook.
Events are brilliant but also draining, so that 12 minutes of dwell time is evidence that people are looking for spaces to spend longer amounts of time in. A welcoming space to sit down, send an email, and take a breather before carrying on with their day.
This is how you accommodate visitors when they need to recharge their energy levels.
Fancy trialling a Nook? Maybe youâve been thinking about adding a new meeting space or wellness area but arenât quite ready to commit yet, so how about trying one of these pods out for a while.
You can see how people interact with it, gather some feedback, and if at the end you like it then great - itâs yours! Pop us a message at [email protected] to get the ball rolling.
âWe were so impressed with Nook at our conference this year that we would like to confirm for next year. We would be looking for more, just waiting to confirm the numbersâ - Events & Brand Manager, Travel Technology Sector
Event organisers rebook Nooks year on year because they offer:
- Flexibility: Wheels easily move and relocate last minute anywhere around the venue
- Affordability: Cheaper for exhibitors to hire compared to a full exhibition stand
- Sustainability: No build and break, and branding gets removed, recycled, ready for the next exhibitor
- Wellbeing: Nooks become a destination point for visitors to meet and recharge in, extending their time and energy at the event
Public libraries are a unifying space for the local community đ¤ As such, they need to accommodate a variety of people using these spaces. Here are real life examples of how Nooks have helped previous libraries create these welcoming environments:
- People use Nook as a grounding space to shed the stress of a journey or to leave the world behind for a moment, before then becoming âreadyâ to engage
- Adult learning space where Nook helps remove the spotlight/stigma from the learner. For example, where English is not the first language, Nook is a safe space for what can be self-conscious moments around vital communications
- Nooks are a useful space for staff to make an appointment to meet a visitor: âIâll meet you in the Nook by the liftâ
- Workshops are common in libraries and Nooks can be used to surround or separate areas for this purpose
- Staff use Nooks for their one to ones with each other, for catch ups, inductions for new employees, training, etc.
- Libraries often have a particular mission to be more neuroinclusive, so Sensory Nooks work well due to their soothing elements such as twinkling back wall, fibre optic lights, and reflective mirrors
The main reason workers want to be in the office? Other people. The main reason workers donât want to be in the office? Other people.
It seems we humans are a tricky bunch to satisfy. This is why Nooks can be a good card to have up your sleeve.
When everyoneâs too noisy around you, slide into a pod where the acoustics cleverly hush - but donât silence - your surroundings. Youâre still in the same space as everyone else but if youâre feeling a little overwhelmed for whatever reason, itâs a way to have some time alone for a little while.
You know how you feel calm watching a sunset, walking by the sea, or trundling through a forest? Designers like to replicate that atmosphere by using natural materials, otherwise known as biophilic design.
Materials such as wood, cotton, marble, wool, slate and stone are just some of the elements that are used to create a more welcoming environment for people to work in. Our good friend Ness from the is hosting her first ever Biophilic Design Conference at the on 12th November so of course weâll be there in full support!
More details to be announced nearer the time, but for now we heartily recommend you follow the Journal of Biophilic Design and get your paws on some early bird tickets whilst theyâre still available. In the meantime, please enjoy some of our favourite Nooks kitted out with photographs taken by Ness herself.
How often do you see a handful of people sitting in an echoey conference room, then having to shuffle awkwardly out when itâs needed? Thatâs why Nooks work so well:
- Instant meeting rooms
- Moveable meeting rooms
- Flexible-capacity meeting rooms
- No-knocking-down-walls meeting rooms
You can even take your meeting rooms with you when you move offices thanks to the podâs easy to move wheels.
Hello, we are Nook Pod.
We created Nook because we care about people in open workspaces. Climbing inside a Nook helps people to de-stress and recharge while improving your concentration and conversations.
For organisations, Nook enables more flexible, entrepreneurial and collaborative work styles through their mobility and how they support ad-hoc walk-up meetings.
We also now offer Nooks for hire for events because people in these environments report becoming totally drained and at times overwhelmed. Having a semi-private space allows them to top-up their batteries while remaining connected to the event.
Event organisers sub-let the Nooks to sponsors who can then apply a logo or an all-over graphic wrap such as those seen below.
