Videos by Emily's Battle with Batten in Cottingham. On 20th January 2022 we received the devastating news that our beautiful 10 year old daughter Emily has a life-limiting condition called Batten Disease.
Emily has been practicing her football all day today โฝ I'm so proud of how much she has come along with her football recently ๐ she has grown so much in confidence and it was lovely to see โค๏ธ she was dribbling the ball on her own and was able to change direction based on where she could hear my voice. And she was blocking the ball with her foot when she could hear that it was going to go past her feet. These were things that she couldn't do before and it was fantastic to see ๐งก we only got her out of the park by promising we would cut the grass at home and she could continue in the garden ๐คฃ #football #disabilityfootball #BlindFootball #footballlovers #blindness #blindnessawareness #battendisease #battendiseaseawareness #cln3 #raredisease #rarediseaseawareness #persistence
These two were playing this for a good half an hour โค๏ธ Emily has got a seriously good throw on her ๐ช๐ผ I was scared for my telly and my ornaments ๐ it was lovely to hear them laughing away together when one of them did a bad throw โค๏ธ
๐ Emily is riding a bike again ๐ Ever since her birthday Emily has been adamant that she wanted to spend her birthday money on a new trike. She sometimes rides a trike during her break time at school and she absolutely loves it. We decided to do a bit of research to see what kind of trikes are out there and see what would be the right one for Emily. We were surprised to learn how costly these can be, especially now that she is pretty much the size of an adult. Emily's birthday money just wasn't enough to be able to buy one. ๐ Luckily for us a friend of ours came across an advert for the trike you can see her riding in the video. We were amazed at the condition of the trike and also at the cost the person selling it was asking for. We jumped at the chance to buy it and we are so glad that we did. Riding a bike for Emily is way too difficult especially with her vision loss so having a trike and not having to worry about losing balance, for her is a real game changer. ๐ Riding a trike still comes with its difficulties for Emily as she can't see where she is going, however we walk or run beside her telling her which way to turn and in a large open space with nothing to get in her way she will be off and riding her trike freely. Huge thanks to Paul Adamson ๐งก for being Emily's hero and driving to Hornsea to pick the trike up. #battendisease #battendiseaseawareness #cln3 #raredisease #rarediseaseawareness #trikes #bikelife #nothingisimpossible #TogetherWeWillMakeADifference
