Hypopressives with Jana
Low pressure fitness - hypopressives - helping to treat prolapse and other pelvic floor disfunctions
Breath awareness is key to pelvic health because the diaphragm and pelvic floor work together. When you inhale, the pelvic floor relaxes, and when you exhale, it contracts. Focusing on breath helps release tension in the pelvic muscles, improves core function, and reduces stress, all of which support pelvic floor health.
I actually did got asked this question yesterday so here it is!
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that span the area at the bottom of the pelvis. These muscles support the pelvic organs, which include the bladder, bowel, re**um, and, in women, the uterus and va**na. The pelvic floor plays a crucial role in controlling the release of urine, f***s, and gas, as well as in s*xual function and, in women, childbirth.
The pelvic floor muscles also work to maintain proper posture and stability in the pelvis, supporting the spine and contributing to overall core strength. Strengthening or relaxing these muscles can help with issues like urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, or other dysfunctions related to the pelvic region.
Along with other key muscle group in your torso, or core, your pelvic floor muscles allow your body to absorb outside pressure (from lifting, coughing, sneezing, laughing and even talking…) in a way that protects your spine and your organs.
Healthy pelvic floor allow you to squeeze and relax (contract and lengthen) automatically and synchronically with your breathing. The most important part of the contraction is that you can also relax and lengthen the pelvic floor muscles.
Hypopressives create negative pressure on the breath hold allowing the body to do just that, so why squeeze something that doesn’t need squeezing!

Hypopressives is breathing and postural technique that uses the whole body to activate the deep core muscles, improve posture and release myofascia tension.
It is an easy to learn, yet powerful method that activates the reflexive muscles of the pelvic floor and deep abdominals, which in turn deeply activates the core system, providing support and lift to the pelvic organs.
Hypopressives is incredible at improving prolapse symptoms, abdominal separation (diastasis recti) and improving back pain and pelvic pain.
When doing the hypopressives breathing technique a negative pressure is created between the diaphragm and the pelvic floor to essentially draw up the pelvic organs and activate the core cylinder, the poses are then added to create even more lift, improving whole body strength and release myofascia tension in the body.
Who is this for?
Everybody can benefit from hypopressives they are all about retraining your core muscles to work as they were designed to. However, they can be particularly helpful to you if:
- you find it difficult to recruit the pelvic floor muscles
- are suffering with stress incontinence (sneeze pee’s / cough pee’s)
- you have a sense of dragging / heaviness / weakness in the va**na and potentially pain with s*x
- you have been diagnosed with a prolapse (cyctocele - bladder, re**al or uterine)
- you are a postnatal mum (whether that it 6 weeks or 10 years) and feel you have a poor core function or pelvic floor issues you’d like to improve
- you have an abdominal separation (diastasis) you’d like to improve
- you have poor core function and have ongoing back / pelvic pain; or
- you have tried everything else and are even considering surgery for prolapse symptoms.

Great day with these lovely ladies in Dudley 💞
Controlling the tempo of our breathing helps control the state of the mind in times of stress, where the body’s natural “fight or flight” response, quickens up our rate of breathing and causes panic and stress in both our body and mind.
When we are scared or in a state of stress our shoulders tighten, causing even more tension and our heart beat races, our breathing becomes short and sharp, increasing the sense of panic.
If we can maintain an even, steady breath, this slows the heart rate, relaxes the body and supplies the brain with enough oxygen to make wise decisions.
Starting your day with 10 minute hypopressives practice calms the parasympathetic nervous system and increases the prospect of a positive day.

Pelvic floor dysfunction doesn’t have to be a life sentence! You too can heal your body and get rid of those life limiting symptoms!
Hypopressives are a breathing technique that uses tensions in the upper & lower body to activate the deep core which helps ‘lift’ the pelvic floor. It is about learning to breathe using the diaphragm properly – which is connected to the pelvic floor through facia – a connective tissue throughout the body.

Stress can cause your pelvic floor to become too tight because, when you’re tense you hold your breath, tighten your muscles, and bear down on your pelvic floor. Add in having a weakened pelvic floor from childbirth or a coughing episode and you’ve got a recipe for one stressed out pelvic floor. Learning to breathe properly is the key.

Urge incontinence, also known as overactive bladder (OAB), is a type of urinary incontinence characterized by a sudden and intense urge to urinate, often accompanied by involuntary leakage of urine before reaching the toilet. It occurs due to involuntary contractions of the bladder muscles, leading to an urgent need to urinate even when the bladder is not full.
Causes:
1. Bladder Muscle Dysfunction: Dysfunction of the detrusor muscle, which controls bladder contractions, can lead to overactivity and urge incontinence.
2. Neurological Disorders: Conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or stroke can disrupt nerve signals between the bladder and the brain, resulting in bladder dysfunction and urge incontinence.
3. Bladder Irritants: Certain foods and beverages, such as caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods, and artificial sweeteners, can irritate the bladder and trigger overactivity, leading to urge incontinence.
4. Bladder Infections: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) can cause irritation and inflammation of the bladder, leading to increased urgency and frequency of urination, often accompanied by urge incontinence.
5. Medications: Some medications, such as diuretics, sedatives, and certain antihypertensive drugs, can affect bladder function and contribute to urge incontinence as a side effect.
Hypopressives exercises offer a non-invasive and effective means of addressing urge incontinence by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles, reducing intra-abdominal pressure, and enhancing bladder control and coordination. However, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional or pelvic health specialist to determine the appropriate exercises and techniques based on individual needs and goals.
Yay for Friday 🎉💖 with a reminder to take a deep breath or few 💞
Urine leakage, also known as urinary incontinence, is common, especially among women and older adults. However, it’s crucial to understand that just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s normal or should be ignored.
Urine leakage can occur due to various reasons, including weakened pelvic floor muscles, nerve damage, hormonal changes, and certain medical conditions. It can significantly impact a person’s quality of life, causing embarrassment, social withdrawal, and even depression in some cases.
Seeking medical help is essential if you’re experiencing urine leakage. There are various treatment options available, including pelvic floor exercises, lifestyle changes, medications, and of course hypopressives. Addressing the issue early can often lead to successful management and improved quality of life.

Breath is incredibly powerful because it connects our mind, body, and spirit. Deep breathing techniques can help reduce stress, calm the mind, and promote relaxation, which in turn can support the body’s natural healing processes. Additionally, deep breathing can improve oxygenation of the blood, which is essential for overall health and well-being. Add posture and alignment and pelvic floor healing is on its way to you too 💞
