Jennifer Harby from the BBC online has written an insightful and also very poignant article about my solo exhibition at the Sock Gallery in Loughborough, which is on till 3rd June.
A baby and her mother who were not allowed to be together, the social norm and common practice for an u***d mother pregnant with her unborn child to be sent away. "Out of sight out of mind", then the mother would have been strongly encouraged to give the baby up for adoption.
Read my story.

Has todays society progressed past the 1970s opinions, have we really moved on when it comes to single mothers and their babies? Or are we still stuck in the same old belief systems that are just masked under different social welfare laws? Read my blog and hear my story then tell me what you think?
The immoral welfare of a baby This painting stores many emotions and secrets, some of which even I can not recall. It has certainly been a journey painting it.

In 1971 I was born in a mother and baby home called St Agatha, which was ran by nuns. I was fostered from birth, because my mother had her baby out of wedlock she was encouraged to give me up for adoption. A woman who my mum worked for as a nanny, helped her get me back. Sadly, my mum would never talk to me about this time, it's as though she carried the shame all her life. I have since tried to locate my records, but I can't find anything about me until I am 18 months old and from then I seem to be on lots of archival information. Apparently a data protection law came into effect in 1976 which stated fostering records were not required to be kept, I think the requirement nowadays is that they are kept for 75 years. I have this photo which I've painted a self portrait from, I do not know where I was or who was looking after me at the time this of this photo. It seems as though the camera has caught an invisible baby within its lense and captured her on this photograph.

This is a piece that I created a while back during lockdown! Throughout the whole creatve journey I explored memory and Identity and how they interwine.
