This week at RIB is all about custom orders and new developments! It may be cold outside, but inside The Bead Room is a hive of activity! It's ok (and normal) to feel anxiety around horse riding, particularly when we're struggling with anxiety in other areas of our life; it can have a knock on effect and impact our riding. But no~one should make us feel bad about it! But some people will. Often unintentionally. Maybe someone unthinkingly says, " you just need to get on with it!" or similar. They aren't necessarily being mean; they just don't understand the fear and how real it is for some. But it's not helpful! And so not only do we have our worries to deal with but the feeling that we're somehow less of a rider, less capable. What we need is a friend who understands, who's been there and come through the other side, to show us the way. Someone who's just a little further ahead of us to guide and encourage us. Sometimes we're lucky and find that friend but some of us have to face our fears alone. Rhythm beads can be a like a friend. Their musical sound is a comfort like a friend's chatter as we ride, taking our mind off the worries and giving us something else to focus on. Maybe you have had a loss of confidence or have anxiety around riding? Sometimes we know the reason for our anxiety ~ an accident or incident that has caused our confidence to take a huge knock for example but for many of us; there is no obvious reason; we just find ourselves increasingly worried about riding, thinking of all the 'what ifs' that could happen. We might feel reluctant to ride in certain situations; it's too windy today, I'll leave it until the weather's better. We might feel guilty about owning a horse that we think we're "not making the most of", worrying about how much it is all costing. Rhythm beads work on both horse and rider, the rhythmic jingle created as our horse moves, helps us to relax and give our mind a sound to focus on. Because we are able to relax, our horse is too.
