Norovirus (vomiting bug) 17/07/2024

Mid Yorkshire Teaching Hospital have informed the practice they are currently experiencing a large number of outbreaks of norovirus (diarrhoea and vomiting) on the wards across all 3 hospitals.

It is important that you do not attend A&E unless it is an emergency.

If you have the bug, the most important thing to do is to rest and have lots of fluids to avoid dehydration.

Stay off work or school until you have not been sick or had diarrhoea for 2 days.

Do no visit hospitals and care homes during this time.

To stop it spreading the best thing to do is to wash your hands with soap and water, (alcohol gel does not work) and remain at home.

who need support with low level mental health issues
who are lonely or isolated
who have complex social needs which affect their wellbeing.

If you wish to book an appointment with Hawwa please call the surgery on 01924 767101. Hawwa works at North Road Suite on Thursday.

We are working towards improving access on the telephones as part of General Practice Improvement Programme. We only took requests for repeat medications over the phone for patients in need of special care, support, protection or housebound, so we were surprised to see that up to 9 hours per week are requests for repeat medications, as you can appreciate this increases the length of time patients have to wait to book an appointment or get urgent medical advice. Going forward Patients who are not classed as vulnerable will be asked to order their medication using their online account, NHS app, PATCHS or drop off in the prescription box provided at the surgery.
If you do not have online access all you need to do is bring some photo ID down to surgery and complete the short form, our staff can help if you have any difficulty completing the form, the staff will sign you up to your online account, giving you a username and password, it is very easy to navigate the system to order your medication, you will also be able to see your test results, and medical information.

Measles 08/02/2024

MEASLES OUTBREAK

The NHS has recently sent out texts to young people or their parents / carers regarding the MMR vaccine. The texts say that the patient may not have had one or both MMR vaccines (Measles Mumps and Rubella). We have received many phone calls about this, and on checking the records we have found that the texts have been incorrectly targeted, and all records we have checked have shown that the full course has been received.

Please help us by checking the Red Book or the NHS App before contacting us

If the Red Book or the NHS App do not show that two doses of the MMR have been received (usually at 13 months and 3 years 4 months), and you would like your child to have the MMR vaccines please contact Surgery on 01924 767101

If the Red Book / NHS App do show both vaccines, there is no need to contact us.

We really appreciate your support with this!

You can find more information about the MMR vaccine here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/mmr-vaccine/

You can find out more about measles here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/measles/ – if you / your child is unwell and you are concerned it could be measles, Please contact surgery and do not bring your child in as measles is highly contagious.
