Why is it called San Silvestro? ๐ค๐ค๐ค
Well....in Italy for every day of the year, there is one or more Saint celebrated.
Italians use the term ONOMASTICO to refer to your giorno onomastico, 'name day', which most people cut down to simply l'onomastico. According to the Italian Catholic traditions, your name day is the feast day of whichever saint you're named after (because naturally you're named after a saint).
For example, two days ago it was mine.
29th December is San Davide ๐๐
From my Casa to your Casa,
Have a great celebration and let's hope for normality to come back presto, anzi prestissimo! โค๏ธ๐โค๏ธ๐โค๏ธ

Napoli it's the home of the traditional Italian pizza and here it's the story about the most diffuse Italian food!
โด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธโด๏ธ
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
The city of Naples in Italy is widely known to be the home of pizza. Napels was founded as early as the 16th-century. The majority of the population was very poor and so pizza โ flatbread with toppings that was sold by street vendors and could be eaten for any meal โ met the needs of Neapolitans as a food that could be eaten quickly and was cheap.
These early iterations of pizza were usually topped with a variety of things, such as tomatoes, cheese, olives, anchovies, and garlic. The famous French writer, Alexandre Dumas, even described the wide array and diversity of pizza toppings in 1843.

INFLUENCE OF ROYALTY
The most popular account of the invention of the margherita pizza starts in 1861, which was the year Italy unified. In 1889, King Umberto I and Queen Margherita visited Naples, which had formerly been the capital of the southern kingdom.
Supposedly, Queen Margherita was bored of the gourmet French food that was, at the time, very popular with European royalty. As such, she summoned Raffaele Esposito, who was the most famous pizza-maker in Naples at the time. Queen Margherita commissioned Esposito to make three different pizzas for her.
Legend has it that the first two pizzas that Esposito and his wife made were not to the Queenโs tastes. These included pizza marinara, which featured garlic, and pizza Napoli, which featured anchovy. The third pizzaโinspired by the colours of the Italian flagโthe Queen approved. Esposito immediately named the pizza after Queen Margherita and asked her for a Royal Seal.
The note which a chamberlain sent to Esposito still hangs in the pizzeria he worked at, Pizzeria Brandi.

Forza Azzurri!!!! ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐น
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Azzurro is light blue so here a quick story for you:
According to their wonderful bookย Tutti i colori del calcioย (All the Colours of Football), authors Sergio Salvi and Alessandro Savorelli acknowledge that although national teams generally wear strips based on the colours of their respective national flags, this is not always the case:ย The Dutch wear orange jerseys, the colour of the House of Orange-Nassau;ย the Germans wear white shirts, from the flag of Prussia; and the Slovenians green and white, the traditional colours of the capital city of Ljubljana. The Indians have an all-blue strip and the Australians green and gold!
The Italians' football and rugby (both codes) teams wear blue in honour of the House of Savoy, under whomย Italyย was unified in 1861.
Back in the 60s at elementary school in Italy they taught us that they wearย azzurroย (light blue) because of theย challenge of Barletta, in which 13 French and 13 Italian knights fought and the Italians famously won. The Italians wore a light blue scarf, which then remained as the sporting colour in Italy. It is not reported if Zinedine Zidane was part of the French contingent.
Of course it wouldn't be the first time history was rewritten, and the bit about the blue scarf was invented to justify the blue of the Savoia flag. Or it could be the other way around โ that the blue in the flag was chosen based on the Barletta challenge.

๐Buongiorno da Let's speak Italiano! ๐
Oggi studiamo la differenza tra
โก๏ธDai
e
โก๏ธAndiamo
Daiย is an interjection in Italian that meansย Come on!ย The first time I heard it, I admit that, as an English speaker, I mistakenly thought the other person (who just happened to be a little boy I was babysitting) was telling me toย Die!ย It was a good thing the mother stepped in before I took offence!
Andiamoย is the first-person plural form of the verbย andareย (to go). When used in a neutral sentence, it simply meansย we goย but when used as an imperative to make a suggestion, it translates asย Letโs go!ย Compare the following two sentences:
Andiamo al cinema ogni sabato sera.ย =ย We go to the cinema every Saturday evening.
Andiamo al cinema stasera!ย =ย Letโs go to the cinema this evening!
Here are a couple of additional example sentences where Dai, andiamo! is used:
Dai, andiamo fuori a mangiare qualcosa. Ho fame!
Come on, letโs go out and eat something. Iโm hungry!
Dai, andiamo a casa. Sono stanco morto.
Come on, letโs go home. Iโm so tired.

Oggi รจ la festa della repubblica!
Today is Republic day!
Every year on June 2nd, Italians celebrateย la Festa della Repubblicaย โ known asย Republic Dayย in English โ which is the name of the Italian national day. It celebrates the institutional referendum held just a year after the end of the Second World War, in which the Italian people voted to abolish the monarchy and form a republic.
IPA: /หfษs.ta dรฉlยทla reหpu.bหli.ka/
Although celebrations are held all over Italy, the main event always takes place in Rome. It includes a flag-raising ceremony, the deposition of a laurel wreath by theย President of the Republicย (Presidente della Repubblica) at theย Altar of the Fatherlandย (Altare della Patria) in honour of the Unknown Soldier (Milite Ignoto) and a grand military parade alongย Via dei Fori Imperiali.
During the ceremony, the Italian National anthem is sung and theย Frecce Tricolori, the aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian Air Force, cross the skies of Rome, emitting a design with red, green and white smoke that resembles the Italian flag.
