Just wanted to share with you this image which shows the importance of stacking Astro images to ensure we capture all of the detail. The first image is a single frame from a 60 second video I shot of our moon last night in 1080p.

The average frame rate was around 20fps which means I had around 1,200 individual frames to stack. The second image is the stacked result.

Earths atmosphere is turbulent and trying to image through it can be tricky, a single image will be different from the next due to the atmospheric distortion. This is why it’s important to capture many many frames and stack them together so we can average out these distortion and create a more crisp and sharp image.

Hopefully the above 2 images demonstrate this quite well.

AstRoePhotography - YouTube 31/12/2022

I have created a YouTube channel where I plan to share simple tricks for processing Astro data, stretching the data to bring out faint details and hints/tips to improve images.

Astrophotography is a steep learning curve and I hope to help in anyway I can, any suggestions for videos are always welcome and I will endeavour to create a YouTube video for every query posted on this feed.

Please write your suggestions and don’t forget to subscribe to my channel to get updates on new content.

Thanks to you all for your continued support ❤️

Here is my image of the Pleiades star cluster, also known as the Seven Sisters. This is a reprocess of my data from last week, I previously used Photoshop to process the data but this time round I’ve used identical data but processed fully in pixinsight with a lot of help from a very good friend and fellow astrophotographer… so I big shout out and loads of credit to as I couldn’t of produced this image without the help! Everyone should head to page on Instagram and check out his incredible images. Thanks Rich for your help dude 🤩

Communicating with the galaxy isn't as simple as it sounds. Earth-generated radio waves travel at the speed of light - since we haven't had the technology very long, that means we've only sent them 100-200 light-years into space. This graphic shows just how far that is. No, not the square. The blue dot in the square

The Orion Nebula.
Probably one of the most famous of all the stunning nebulae, the great Orion Nebula is a target I’ve not had many opportunities to image. I’ve been doing AP for just over a year and finally I get to have a go at Orion. I am very happy with the result and so far I think this is my favourite image that I’ve shot! This is just over an hour of total integration at 180s subs. Quite a difficult one to process due to the very bright areas in contrast with the much darker and fainter hydrogen gas surrounding the core. There are 4 main, super bright stars in the core that illuminate the nebula. A stunning example of the true beauty that is out there!

Pleiades - The Seven Sisters.
I first attempted to shoot this target a year ago and although I’m not completely happy with this image, it is still a vast improvement on my first attempt. Just over 9hours of total integration at 300s subs.

The Horsehead and Flame nebula… this is very limited in detail, I had a couple of hours session on this target but only 3 images actually saved for some unknown reason/glitch. So this is only 15 minutes of integration. Hopefully next time I’ll get all of the data!

Not a target I get to shoot for very long due to the bushes at the bottom of my garden being to the south, but I cut them back in the summer so this year I can get a bit of time on the incredibly stunning Orion Nebula! Such a beautiful target, hopefully I’ll get round to processing tonight’s session very soon 😁

Single exposure from tonight’s session so far, 180seconds 😍🤩

Double tap to show your love and support, some of my favourite images from this year… been a tough year! Building up my rig, plenty of cloudy nights have slowed down my imaging so I haven’t got as much astrophotography as I’d have liked. But hoping to get some sessions in over the Christmas period.

I’ve got over 600 followers now so a big thanks for your support ❤️🥰

In my garden I have 2 washing lines that run from end to end, currently in the way of one of my exposures. So just in case anyone wondered what the Pleiades star cluster looks like when shot through a washing line… here it is 😊

Second image of tonight’s session and we have possibly a plane passing over lol…

I recently downloaded PixInsight to try it out and see how it would change my processing… so far I’m very impressed! Just reprocessing my East Veil Nebula data…

This is a work in progress, a little under an hour of total integration so far, a 4 panel mosaic. I will be adding to it in the next few weeks. My first proper attempt at the Heart Nebula…
