We are very proud of PCSO Mick Ashurst from the city beat team, who received a commendation today from Chief Superintendent Richie Allen.

The award cited the proactive work he does with retailers and businesses in the city, including re-invigorating the Shop Watch scheme and securing funding from City of Durham Parish Council to subsidise Shop Watch radios for some of the smaller businesses and independent retailers.

Mick joined Durham Police last year, having worked in the retail environment himself, so knows the issues that shops face on a day to day basis, and, does his best to come up with solutions to ongoing issues.

He has received positive feedback from a number of key businesses and organisations who all say he goes that extra mile for them and that the recognition is well deserved.
