If you're planning to travel outside the UK, you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world.

We offer a wide range of travel vaccinations at our pharmacy. If you need vaccinations for travel purposes or occupational health, we are well placed to help you. Our travel vaccination pharmacists will take you through a consultation to establish your vaccination needs and requirements. We also offer antimalarials which can be dispensed at the same appointment.

Vaccinations are very important to protect yourself and your loved one. Also, for your travel insurance to be valid, you need to have done the recommended vaccinations. Some vaccinations have multiple doses so it’s important that you plan to have your vaccination in advance of your departure date, usually 6-8 weeks prior if at all possible.

We offer walk-in appointments to suit your needs. Our pharmacists have received specific training in providing travel vaccinations services. The service will be provided in a private consultation room where you can ask any questions you might have during the consultation. It's important that you bring any previous immunisation history with you to help the pharmacist work out what vaccination you need.

NHS Flu Vaccination Campaign 2022/23

As autumn approaches in the coming months, now is the time to start thinking about getting the annual flu jab. This year, the free jab will be offered to more people amidst concerns around the still-present coronavirus.
The NHS flu programme in England typically offers the flu vaccine to those over the age of 65, pregnant women and those with existing health conditions or weakened immune systems. These groups will remain a high priority this year, while the programme will also be extended to reach out to more people.
In a typical winter, flu is one of the biggest health concerns for many older and vulnerable people. With the additional threat of coronavirus this year, the public are being advised to take extra care to avoid both of these diseases. The government hopes for as many people as possible to receive the flu jab to reduce the risk of caregivers and healthcare workers coming under immense pressure.

We will start offering flu vaccinations from week commencing 12th September. This may change if the vaccines are not delivered on time.

We will be promoting our online booking system very soon. However, if you are not computer literate then you can telephone the pharmacy to book an appointment.

The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS to people who:
are 50 and over (including those who’ll be 50 by 31 March 2023) and
*have certain health conditions
*are pregnant
*are in long-stay residential care
*receive a carer’s allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person
who may be at risk if you get sick
*live with someone who is more likely to get infections (such as someone who has *HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or
rheumatoid arthritis)
*frontline health or social care workers
*have a serious long-term health condition, including:
respiratory conditions, such as asthma (needing steroid inhaler or tablets), chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema and bronchitis
diabetes
*heart conditions, such as coronary heart disease or heart failure
*being very overweight – a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above
*chronic kidney disease
*liver disease, such as hepatitis
*neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, *multiple sclerosis (MS), or cerebral palsy
*a learning disability
*problems with your spleen, for example, sickle cell disease, or if you have had your
spleen removed
*a weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or
taking medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy

This week the Met Office announced a heatwave warning. ⚠️

Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot, there are health risks.

We've broken down a few key ways to keep safe and cool during the hotter weather:

✔️ Keep out of the heat if you can.
✔️ Wear sunscreen.
✔️ Make sure to drink plenty of water.

Also, make sure to keep an eye out for anyone who you know that might be vulnerable to the hot weather. ❤️

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR AUGUST

As many of you will have seen when visiting our pharmacy, we are currently undergoing an extensive renovation, so our team are working in a more congested environment. In order to support the works and the team, we have made the difficult decision to limit our opening hours for the month of AUGUST.

We will be reducing our weekday opening hours to 9am - 6pm from Monday 1st August until Friday 2nd September.

We hope that you all will understand and support us during this time. We are excited to be able to share that when the works are completed, we will have 2 brand new consulting rooms as we hope to provide more services in order to support the local community. As last year, we will be offering walk in and appointments for Flu vaccines and we have applied to the NHS to provide COVID vaccines too.

Thank you for your continued support

The team at Bridgegate Chemist

After months of planning, we have managed to secure the assistance of a group of shop fitters to complete the refurbishment of our pharmacy which, if all goes to plan, will commence this Friday!
The success of our business, with your support, has meant that we not only need a larger dispensary to facilitate the increased volume of business (due in part to our free prescription delivery service) but also another consultation room within the pharmacy allowing us to provide additional services to our customers which we plan to promote in store and via our page.
Please bear with us during what will be a mammoth task as we endeavour to continue trading and provide the same level of service as you have come to expect from us.
