This week we started a full house rewire. The majority of Electrical rewires require the walls to be cut, chased and chiselled which can result in a lot of dust, mess and re-plastering work. At Sparks One, we apply bonding plaster to all of our raggles so no need for a plasterer post Electrical work.

Safely moving and protecting furniture is very important to us and our clients.

Some pictures from a rewire at the end of last year. This 3-bedroom property was fully furnished: furnished properties always take longer than unfurnished due to the constant moving and protecting of furniture. We had great access for cable routes on this job, the attic above the first floor and the large floor void beneath the property really helped. This project took slightly longer than we had anticipated due to unforeseen obstacles, however the clients (who had made alternative living arrangements for during the work) were lovely and understanding. A great and enjoyable job in the end!

Consumer unit replacement:

This property had a dual supply consumer unit with a separate off peak supply for storage heaters. We replaced this with two consumer units so that each supply had its own separate consumer unit

Full rewire: church to office renovation.

This was a large project where an old church was transformed into a modern office for a company that creates satellite technology and monitors satellites which can detect natural disasters. We had the contract for the full scope of electrical works including a complex data network

This is why it’s important to carry out electrical safety checks (EICR). The majority of an electrical installation is not visible, just because something works doesn’t mean it’s safe. These pictures are examples of ’arching’ which occurs because of loose connections. The build up of heat can lead to damaged insulation and is a potential fire hazard. Don’t neglect your electrics!

Commercial TP&N (Three Phase) distribution board replaced during some electrical upgrade works at a church hall in Dunfermline. This was part of a larger scope of works required to ensure the electrical installation was compliant after a failed Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)

Found under the floor boards at a recent full rewire.

Not only is this lazy and unnecessary, it can lead to future problems. There is no reason why a cable cannot go directly from A to B when access to the floor void has been gained. You won’t ever find anything like this on our projects

A full rewire of a cottage in Peebles. The client wanted to keep the arched brick basement with graffiti as a feature in the dining room. The property is now a holiday let on AIRBNB

Soffit lighting added to the exterior of this property. A great feature - not only does it illuminate the front of the building but it also looks really nice in the evening!

This project was a large unused storage area in the basement of a town centre hotel which was transformed into a gym for the guests to use.

We were responsible for the full electrical installation which included:

* first fix containment works - cable tray and conduits.
* wiring with several different kinds of cables - PVC twin & earth, FP 200 for fire alarms, SSW (steel wired armour cable) for supplying distribution boards
* small power and lighting
* extra low voltage fire alarm system
* CCTV
* emergency lighting
* cat6 data network

The circular light fittings in the fitness room were a challenging installation: In this area the ceiling was made from steel so we had slotted struts welded to the spanning the width of the room. This strut doubled up as both containment for our cabling and fixings for the light fittings. The lights themselves were wired back to a remote central control interface which allowed for a number of settings - dimming, colour changing, 24/7 on/off programming - a very nice feature.

Recent kitchen renovation!

We carried out all of the electrical works associated with a client's kitchen renovation. The kitchen was relocated to a larger room giving us a blank wall to construct our first fix works. The project was carried out in three separate visits over the course of several weeks. Very happy with the end result!
