🚫🔋Has it been a long week? Is your battery flat? Here are a few key steps you can take to restore your mental health and add sparkle to your life again...
✨ Talk – If you have any concerns about your work, business or family, talk about them. Speak to your partner at home or give your best friend a call and just talk. You don’t need to find a solution – although you might want to brainstorm – just getting things off your chest will provide some relief.
✨ Stay active – Whether it’s a walk or run outdoors once a day, an online fitness video, a bit of gardening or just dancing around your living room to your favourite music with the kids, it’s important to keep moving. It will help you burn some energy and take your mind off any worries, even if only for a short time.
Physical activity has a huge potential to enhance our wellbeing. Even a short burst of 10 minutes' brisk walking increases our mental alertness, energy and positive mood. Participation in regular physical activity can increase our self-esteem and can reduce stress and anxiety.
✨ Eat right – Many of us are guilty of having let our normal diet go with our normal routine. However, eating a healthy, balanced diet will make you feel much better in the long-term – both physically and mentally. Definitely treat yourself, just in moderation.
✨ Drink right – Just as the diet may have slipped, so may alcohol consumption. Drinking alcohol to combat feelings of loneliness or fear will only provide temporary relief and may make you feel worse in the long-run. Try to limit any alcohol consumption to protect your health – maybe keep it as a weekend treat?
✨ Stay connected – A quick call to family and friends you haven’t seen for a while could do wonders for your mood and psychological wellbeing. Share experiences with your peers to alleviate concerns and lower your stress levels.

We are in the magazine! 😍
The August issue of Dental Nursing journal will be with you very soon and it is full of real-life stories and experiences of dental nurses just like you!
This month, we have chosen to focus on your health and wellbeing. As more of you return to work, we offer some insight into how you can mitigate against back and neck pain as well as overcome and prevent the new challenges brought about by the new PPE expectations. We also hear a sobering account of one DCP's addiction to alcohol and how stress can sometimes impact negatively on our lifestyle choices.
So, here’s a rundown of what’s inside…
• Dental nurse Preetee Hylton stands up for patient care, while Mary Kristy offers some exercises to mitigate against any occupational health risks
• Consultant dermatologist Dr Anjali Mahto suggests how you can limit the negative impact of mask-wearing to your skin.
• Dental hygienist and therapist Sarah Thomson talks to us about her suspension by the GDC due to her active alcoholism and how she now helps others facing their own addictions
• Oluseyi Latinwo talks about her experience in an intensive care unit during the pandemic
• Zoe Wingrove reveals how her practice is telling patients about their ‘PPE evolution’
• Dental nurse Hannah Coverley talks about her return to practice with colleagues Lady Jo Reyes and Susie Verow, as they work alongside newly appointed deputy chief dental officer for England, Jason Wong
• Dental nurse Danielle Schroven (bearing the marks of her mask on our front cover the month) talks about the expansion of duties in a COVID-19 world
• Rosie Connell offers a map to creating a successful career journey, taking advantage of the CPD opportunities along the way
• Shaina Lawrence reveals her approach to giving paediatric patients the perfect head start
• Corporal Sherwin Chance talks about his role as a soldier, dental nurse and a dental nurse instructor at the Defence Medical Academy
• Dental nurse Eloise Meldrum shares her enthusiasm for social media
• Hulya Colak reveals her ‘lockdown pregnancy' and how it might affect her role as a dental nurse
• We join Monika Krumova on her journey from dental nurse to becoming a dental hygienist
• Emma Farrell talks us through implant nursing and rubber dam placement in a COVID-19 world
• Dr Bhaven Modha offers a guide for prospective students to achieving success in the Certificate in Orthodontic Dental Nursing
• In our CPD paper, the highly regarded Juliette Reeves considers the clinical implications and management of diabetes and oral health
• The experts at Aura Infection Control look at why PPE lies at the heart of dentistry.
We are in the Dental Nursing Journal this month discussing our new exciting courses of implant nursing and rubber dam!!!!! 🥳🥳🥳
Watch this space for the article! 😃🤓😃🤓
Happy Friday to you all!
The best part of editing this magazine is hearing the stories of passion and dedication from dental nurses in all kinds of roles and positions. We are looking forward to sharing some of your stories in the August issue. From Army life as a soldier and dental nursing tutor to working in ICU during the pandemic, from implant nursing to lockdown pregnancy, moving into dental hygiene and sharing a passion for oral health education, we want to say a big thank you to all of you who took the time to chat and write! Happy weekend everyone. Please do get in touch if you too want to talk about your experiences as a dental nurse...

My Journey so far
My journey in Dentistry began as a receptionist in 2005, when I started working in an NHS practice in Ely. Within a year, I decided that I needed a challenge and began my dental nursing career.
In 2011, I received my NEBDN Dental Nursing Diploma, I joined Enhance Dental Clinics, private practice in 2013 and soon developed the skills and experience to assist in complex surgical and implant nursing.
I now work in the role of Implant Coordinator at Enhance, a job that I really enjoy because it enables me to work closely with my team and provide high standards of dental care for our patients.
In 2017 I studied with Dawood and Tanner and received my NEBDN Implant Nursing Certificate. This is where I met Glenys, who became my mentor.
