Thornwood Springs Trout Fishery
We are a fly fishery for trout as well as seasonal specimen Rudd ,Crucian ,Tench & Perch fishing
Good to see James fishing for an extremely wet and windy morning session. A nice 4lber with plenty bigger rolling in the waves, also released a tiger, bow and lost a brown I told . Not all about sausages this week šremember groups can be catered for and orders for simple bacon baguette to a full English .
Good to have a group in this week fundraising for a couple of their charities, a few first timers in their group all catching a fish or 2 in a morning session in 3 Springs . Bacon baguettes and coffee to fuel them all . Renalyn and cafe catering for groups when need again hopefully a busier season and itās open regularly!
Plenty of fish coming out of all lakes best today this 7.5lber plus a happy chappy with first trout on 3 springs ..
A good day fishing for all today all catching , fresh stocking for Stalking Pools today of browns and tigers š
Some down the tube for 3 springs to join the other residents, happy fishing all 1.75-2.25lb range..
Autumn stocking started good to get rolling again! Lots great rainbows up to 10lb + from 4lb, lake being w**d cleared also , lots of work being done and to do so please bear with us !šshould be some great fishing to be had after a testing summer ā¦ on tv soon episode 7 .
Was a tough summer with not too much to report so not reported much ! But some good days amongst the hard days , with a few groups and corporate events all enjoying a great day , social and food , thanks to all ! All this can be arranged for private bookings give us a shout . Autumn restock starts on Tuesday with fish of all sizes for all over. Tv programme coming soon to..
Not always about the fish plenty to see always if have your eyes open! Best Rudd of the week 1lb 15 oz. Nice to have a couple of groups in 1 corporate 1 social club . Good times had by all not been an easy summer of fishing for all species but thatās fishing ! Restock planned for next month as per usual 4lb plus on Trenches with 3 springs 1.5 lb+šlooking forward to it!
At last a bit of decent Rudd fishing to be had , make the most of it when conditions are right . They do love a bit of sun and heatā¦. Also we have for sale for your pond as are a good addition to your pond and great for larger wildlife life ponds..also pure crucians availableš
Well done Florin and friends today all caught a fish or 3 and lost a few on 3 Springs in the hot bright and windless day ā¦ done by 1 oāclock. All on small green buzzers 1 foot down . They have been feeding but very specific feeding it seems as a lot on the menu ,the weather been changeable but you come early have a bit of luck and the right fly choice still can catch a few. Same on Trenches some absolute lumps jumping this morning to see..
Some great Rudd fishing this week with about 60 between a pound and just shy of 2lbā¦. All down to the weather as when the suns out they more obligingā¦ carrying on moving a few about removing the smaller sized Rudd to make way for a few extra bigger ones from the other lakes which have never seen a hook! By removing some bulk of smaller sized Rudd should be more food , space and tge bigger ones should grow into even bigger ones ! You just have to try and sometimes work harder to find them . Itās easier when sight fishing possible if they patrolling or sitting on the surface sunbathing. They are always there and have been just some seasons easier to catch if able to see. But thinning out the small ones is needed every once in a while for fish and fishery health. We aim to be the No. 1 big Rudd small water fishery as they are a rarity nowadays..best fish recorded 3lb 14oz but we know there is some considerably larger specimens. By thinning the youngsters hopefully we see a 4lb plus soon but definitely more 2s & 3s š
On a pure fishing note today Madeline turned up mid morning and fished dries at midday on the Trenches. A sedge took sparctic , a brown to release as well as a Rudd. Well done as was hot, bright and midday which usually those 3 factors make it even harder in mid July! Then a switch to Stalking pools where a few Rudd on buzzers and a couple of lost trout takesā¦. While young Theo with his dad lost his biggest ever rainbow on a Montana - better luck next time to him! Good to have tidy happy people lol!
Oh the joys of fishery management??!! Thanks to all who push to make the membership a better place for members only !! We can do without kids ripping the wigwam shelter windows through bad parenting! Adults having bbqs so hot the bbq catches fire!! Rubbish left ā¦ my Acer trees planted having branches snapped by kids again ā¦ and 1 star dishonest Google reviews by someone who has never fished before let alone fly fishedā¦ what he forgot to say when reviewing as overpriced was he spent Ā£20 on a ticket for him his wife and 2 kids ??!!also got a free lesson from my instructor John who changed flies a few times for him and helped him a couple of times !! Soon all be members only and pre booked with daily membership included for occasional visitors. No more on the day arrivalsā¦

A few extra degrees and the tench were at it today as well as Rudd who are now sitting high in the water again, a slow start for them this year, hopefully settled weather continues, but trout fishing today was great and all species showed tigers chasing hard!
