Even Coaches need help with holiday blues!!!
Im just back from holiday... 10 days of sunshine, cocktails, far too much food, family time (a few sibling fights of course!), sea and no rushing around!!!
Whilst I love what I do, what are your top tips for getting back to it as a self-employed person?
"What if I offend someone?"
This was a comment from an aspiring coach I spoke to recently. "What if the niche I pick offends someone?"
This lady was worried, if she settled on a certain niche and ideal client, that others that she could coach, may be offended in some way. Her ideal client is a parent. She was worried that she may upset other women, that fit the same demographic, that aren't mothers. Those non-mothers are likely to struggle with what she talks about in her marketing, so what if she offends them by mentioning children?
This is how far in our own head we can get!
The reality is, it is highly unlikely anyone would be offended. Equally, if all her content resonated with someone that doesn't have children, it is highly unlikely this Coach would be written off because she mentioned children a few times!!!

Why did you become a Coach? Not what pushed you away from whatever you used to do, but what pulled you towards Coaching?
For me it was a number of things... the stuff I loved most about my old career in Talent Acquisition and leadership was the people part. Motivating people, helping others see what they may not believe is possible for them, helping them with challenges, ensuring the right people are in the right roles - not just in terms of skills but what they excel at and enjoy.
All of that coupled with becoming a mum, needing more flex but wanting to do something I was passionate about. That I cared about. That truly made a difference to peoples' lives.
and I am so pleased to say that is exactly what is happening!!

It's the start of (or a couple of weeks in for some!) the school summer holidays. Does that mean getting your business moving just stops?
I know what it's like... You couldn't justify paying for holiday clubs for the kids as you're not earning enough. But to earn more, you need to DO more... but now you don't have time... and quite frankly, you have been "doing" for months now and not much is happening other than the odd client here and there... So you have decided to park it until September. Enjoy the summer and go hard at it when the kids are back to school.
But what will be different? If the efforts you made before just haven't got you anything in return, why will they in September? It's not a nice thought - I know how hard you are trying!! But to get different results, you need to do different things...

Is it really as simple as "nailing your niche"?!
That's where it starts. However, I notice a lot of coaching programmes for Coaches to build their coaching businesses (that was a lot of "coach" in one sentence!) only focus on this.
But then what??
Once you "nail your niche" and craft your "magnetic messaging", what happens next?
This is why I support my clients from start to end. Yes we do all of the above, but we also look at mindset. Accountability. Pricing. Building your signature programme. Planning for the future. Managing "comparisonitis". How to show up consistently and confidently. What success actually means for YOU and how to get there.

Steady flow of clients, consistent income, feeling successful and like you "did it"... sounds dreamy right?!
I know all us Coaches want these things. I also know there is no quick fix to get to this. I even know, even once you've "made it" there will be times when you feel like it's falling apart. When the client flow has dried up. When you start doubting yourself and getting bored.
Whilst I help aspiring Coaches to shift from having a patchy, side-hustle business, to having a steady flow of clients and income and a business they are proud of, I am always 100% honest in sharing this will take time. We won't work together for a couple of months and suddenly you will be doing the elusive 5k or even 10k months.
You can get to that place, sure! But it isn't just going to happen overnight.
I always work with clients on milestone goals. So if 10k months are the ultimate aim, what is your first step to get there? 2k? 3k? Securing 3 clients a month consistently for 3 months?
If you don't have smaller goals, reaching the big ones may never happen.

You CAN Coach anyone.
This is true. But you can't MARKET to everyone.
If you say you are anything to anyone, nobody will hear you.
If you are really clear in saying who you help, with what to reach what outcome, people will notice. They will possibly engage. They may even reach out for your help. At the minimum they will just quietly clock your message. And when they next see you and your messaging, they will clock it again. They may need to see it up to 21 times!!
So get your perfect client clear, your messaging to them clear and keep consistent. My free resource to define your ideal client will really help you with all of this.

This is the feedback I had on a recent consultation call. Her reasons?
š I was honest! I didn't tell this lady she heeded to use Facebook Ads or dance on reels.
š I didn't tell her she must do it MY way or her business will fail.
š I didn't make it sound like she can just do a few simple things and she will make 10k a month in 90 days time.
In fact I didn't tell her what to do at all! I shared how I work, who I help and that I felt comfortable and confident I could Coach and mentor her so she can grow her business to the place she wanted to get it to.

Summer holidays!!!! Love or hate??
My eldest has broken up from school already so we are already in the "juggle".
I'm always torn between loving the fact the days are less squeezed due to school runs and clubs and so being able to get on with things more, vs. wishing I too had 8 weeks of no demands or responsibilities and wanting to be with the kids more (the whole "you only have 18 summers" thing of course amplifying that... then they start arguing and fighting so the guilt of booking them into clubs is fairly quickly dampened!!)

It's my son's Prize-giving event at school today, he most likely won't get a prize....
Not because he hasn't worked really hard, progressed, behaved well (mainly!), performed in sport... But because there are only a handful of prizes to go to the absolute stand-out performances in academics, sports and arts (that definitely won't be his prize!!).
The thing with my eldest son is he is very unassuming. He isn't one to shout about his success. He quietly knows he's done well, and that's enough. He has made solid progress in all areas of school, grown in confidence, matured and makes us proud every day. That is prize enough for me!
So whilst I congratulate all prize winners (I'm sure all are well deserved), I will also be taking that time to applaud all the others that have kept chipping away and are way ahead of where they were this time last year in many areas.
You and your business are no different. Small, consistent steps forward is where you will win the prize of more clients, confidence, freedom and consistent income. One big moment is great, but focus on the constant progress in your business. Then give yourself a prize when you reflect back on how far you have come!!

My answer is always the same. I don't know.
I don't know because I know nothing about your ideal client and niche. How I secure clients will be different to you.

"I CAN"T JUSTIFY THE COST RIGHT NOW"
I hear this A LOT! But what if the cost was the key to earning the money goal you set yourself?
After three sessions with me, having not actually begun launching her business, my recent client had three confirmed discovery calls in her diary and another 5 people expressing interest and likely to book!
Assuming she only converts 25% of these, that would be two paying clients in the bag. That will have paid for her programme with me, and more! Plus she's out of the blocks, equipped with the tools she needs to keep this going!!
I 100% get it - I've been there. Spending money, when you aren't earning it, is terrifying! My advice is only invest in something that will pay for itself, and more, quickly. Don't pay for even more training, outsourcing and fancy branding. You can do all of that when you are out of the blocks.

I don't think you really know your ideal client...
Sorry, but I bet you don't. So many new coaches, or those that have been trying so hard to get things moving in their business, think they do, but they don't.
They will tell me they work with "Professional women with children" or "middle leaders that lack confidence"
But what about the rest?
What about the detail of who they are? What they do? what they think? What they feel? What they wish for?

Going "all in" then going quiet. Not really being sure what exactly you should be posting daily.
Listening to podcasts hoping they will give you all the answers and suddenly the clients will flow in!
Feeling too busy with life to ever get on top of any kind of plan to get your coaching business going.
