Meet Cariad!

Cariad has been part of our Project Rugby Programme which we are currently delivering at Paignton Academy.

Cariad has been the heart and sole of our after school session, the first one with a ball in hand and the first one diving into the mud.

Since being part of Project Rugby Cariad has now signed up to her local team and already is a massive part of it.

When catching up with Cariad she said
' I have been watching my brother play rugby for 7 years now. About 3 years ago I decided I wanted to start rugby but didn't know how or where until I joined this after school club and fell even more in love with the sport '

' I scored 2 tries on my debut and another 2 on my second game'

'Nobody could believe that is was my first game and I was on cloud 9 for days'

We are absolutely buzzing for Cariad and cannot wait to see what she does within rugby in the future.

Along side our Employability Qualification, HITZ community engagement is key!

This is an apt time to say a HUGE thank you to the League of Friends at the Nancy Potter House in Topsham, who allow us to use their library.

Collaborating with these valued facilities for the Employability Qualification program, demonstrates a strong commitment to community partnerships. We will be delivering hot meals and doing leaflet drops. Assisting in setting up rooms, shops and sorting in the charity room.

The personal touch of a welcoming smile and checking that the residents have everything they need to enjoy their lunches cooked in 'The Bradbury Cafe' on the ground floor, not only provides a valuable service but also contributes to well-being and connection in the community.

The building boasts a post office, a hairdressers, the cafe, IT support, a stroke support group, a Chiropodist services and in November there's a table top sale, kids soft play, reflexology and an offer of a 'Warm space' for tea and a bowl of soup.

It's amazing what awaits inside!

πŸŽ‰ Exciting News from the Community Chiefs! πŸ‰

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our innovative programme: Chiefs Engage. This unique Alternative Provision is designed to harness the power and values of rugby to inspire, support, and educate young people aged 11-16 who find themselves disengaged from mainstream education and in need of a guiding hand.

πŸ€” Understanding the Challenge:
We recognize that the traditional school setting isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Many youths face mental health struggles, academic difficulties, behavioural challenges, and personal traumas. These hurdles can significantly impact their educational journey.

🌟 Chiefs Engage: A New Path Forward
Chiefs Engage is our response to these challenges. During a maximum of 15 hours per week, young people visit our hub at Exeter Saracens RFC to take part in a wide range of social and emotional development opportunities, creating an environment that is specific to addressing their needs and challenges.

πŸ™Œ Join Us in This Journey
Together, we can help these young minds regain control of their academic pathways and prepare them for a brighter future. Stay tuned for more updates and stories of transformation!

After a period of intense learning and concentration, what's better than to get moving! Engaging in physical activities like dodgeball can be a great way to get our endorphins pumping, unwind and striking a balance between mental and physical well-being for overall health. The thrill of a well-aimed shot and the resulting laughter from our conditioned games, can be an excellent way to relieve stress and have fun.

A hugely considerate student (who couldn't take part) assigned themselves photography duties. It's a creative and productive way for them to contribute to the activity and capture memorable moments.

Our camp attendees were not only introduced to the vast opportunities within the Army but also got to partake in some truly brilliant team-building activities. It was an invaluable experience that fostered unity, resilience, and a sense of purpose.

They organized various team-building activities, providing clear instructions.

Our learners initially faced challenges, but through effective communication and brainstorming, they successfully completed all the tasks.

These activities not only expanded their problem-solving skills but also boosted their confidence in generating and implementing ideas.

Witnessing their achievements and the sense of accomplishment was truly rewarding for everyone involved.

In full swing the educational programme has started for Exeter Chiefs HITZ. This year we focus on Employability, Work Experience, Maths and English, Enrichment and Physical Activity. This is your opportunity to dive head first into improving your chances in the working world and learning skills school may not have provided! Get in touch [email protected]

That sounds like an exciting educational program! Exeter Chiefs HITZ are offering a comprehensive approach to help young learners improve their employability and life skills. Here's a breakdown of what the program offers:

Employability: This likely includes workshops and training sessions aimed at developing skills that are crucial for securing and excelling in a job. These include CV building, interview skills, soft skills and professionalism in the workplace.

Work Experience: Work experience opportunities can be invaluable for young learners. They provide hands-on exposure to real work environments and help participants gain practical skills and insights.

Maths and English: Strengthening foundational skills in Mathematics and English is essential for success in many career paths. This aspect of the program likely focuses on improving these core skills and potentially GCSE retakes.

Enrichment: Enrichment activities can cover a wide range of topics and experiences, from personal development workshops to cultural and recreational activities. These activities can enhance learners' overall growth and well-being.

Physical Activity: Physical activity is crucial for maintaining physical health and mental well-being. Incorporating physical activities into the program promotes a balanced lifestyle.

Open to learners aged 16-18, with an extension for those up to aged 24 with an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan). This inclusivity ensures that a wide range of individuals can benefit from the program.

The Exeter Chiefs HITZ programme is continuing to celebrate 15 successful years of helping young adults reach their full potential.

The fact that they are receiving visits from well-known faces around Sandy Park and welcoming new students is a testament to the positive impact they've had on the community.

This week, we started to get to know our new students a bit better. Constructive and creative minds in full flow, we worked on who could build the tallest towers and thinking about how they could be strengthen at weak points like joints, junctions and how to improve imperfections.

We found that some didn't know they had these skill sets and it blew us away! With more activities planned like this, we are excited to find out about other hidden talents and how they'll transfer to our planned physical activity!

With the school year coming to an end the Exeter Chiefs Community team were lucky enough to be asked to visit a number of secondary schools such as Kings, St Peters, Kingsbridge and Uffculme for their activities / challenge week.

These activity days are not just about showcasing the fantastic sport of rugby, but they also focus on nurturing essential life skills like sportsmanship and teamwork.

During these action-packed days, the young athletes have been playing a wide variety of games, each emphasising the fundamental principles of play. From handling and passing drills to tactical plays.

We were very impressed with how they adapted and the effort the students showed and hope to see them again in the future.
