The lovely lotus flower symbolises this in nature, reaching up from dark, muddy, and murky waters to blossom into something beautiful.

It was a real privilege to be invited to contribute to the Reading Bodies project exploring representations of overload, burnout, and resilience in literature.
Here are some action shots from the creative writing workshop we held a few weeks ago.
The workshop offered a space to safely reflect on personal experiences and to begin constructing artistic, visual, and written pieces on the themes.
The anthology of submissions is currently being edited, and I'm looking forward to reading the special edition journal article βοΈπ»π¨

Both and all sides of a story are worthy of recognition.
On the final longer training ride before my first cycling sportive, there were moments of pure joy and elation followed later by depeletion and despair. The ride continued, but the mind started questioning, and I wanted out. I realised that the only way was through.
High points and low points offer us space to learn, and many different parts of an experience deserve our awareness and compassionate lens.

I've never thought of myself as a runner.Β
For years and years, I had the story in my mind that "I'm not a runner" and "I can't really do that" so didn't bother trying and always said no to invites to run with friends.
It's been interesting to reflect on how this story developed and the psychological roots of the tendency to doubt what I might be capable of.
I've been getting myself out to run consistently over the past five months, and I even got to the place of enjoying my weekly runs (at least for a little while!).
I've challenged this unhelpful self-narrative recently and completed my first half marathon race - running it without stopping, through sunshine and tropical downpours, smiling along the way, and achieving this at a pace I'm really happy with.Β Β
Can you notice the less helpful stories you tell yourself? What if you gently questioned them and explored other versions of yourself?

My second HYROX at London Olympia was so much fun! I got a personal best in the Women's Open event, and our Mixed Relay team came top 3 - we got a podium spot and flag π₯³

π Manage anxious thoughts and fears more effectively π
On my recent trip scrambling the top of Snowdon, I was revisited by my intense and overwhelming fear of heights. My body started to experience the physical symptoms of anxiety, and my mind went into catastrophizing mode. I wanted to turn back and flee. I felt weak, vulnerable, and overcome with fear. I think it was fortunate that the poor visibility meant that I couldn't see the cliff edge drops either side of me, although this didnβt stop the fear.
What helped me in these moments were coherent breathing techniques, helpful and balanced self-talk, slowing down and pausing, and practices to regulate the physiological signs of anxiety.
