The training has been done, in my taper now and focusing on recovery from the heavy training load with the wizard Mark Blackstone from Blackstone Sports Therapy and Sports Massage Exeter and East Devon..
My English Channel swim window opens September 10th. I’m really excited to swim to France with Fred and Harry Mardle from Masterpiece Charters
Thank you to everyone who has donated, supported me and given me encouragement, especially when doubts have creeped in.
It has been a hard 3 years of training, especially with my MS rearing its ugly head at times making me exhausted. But, as a TEAM we have prepared thoroughly and are ready to tackle the English Channel! Thank you to everyone who has been supported me.

Incremental progress compounds with time.
A cracking day yesterday at the brilliant annual British Long Distance Swimming association (BLDSA) Torbay 8.5mile swim.
It was great to win 🥇 with a time of 3hrs 23mins 37s.
Tough current 1st half and then mega fast 2nd half.
Got the win by about 15mins, but more importantly it was a great opportunity to practice my full pacing and feeding strategy for my upcoming English Channel swim this September 10-15th with the brilliant Fred and Harry Mardle from Masterpiece Charters.
It was a bonus to swim past a massive warship docked in the bay! I’ve no idea what ship it is - anyone got a clue?
Another bonus was the incredible £230 donated by several kind folks to my channel swim for a NU Step for the South West MS Centre and its users.
We are now 85% (£7342) of the way towards our target of £8600! Thank you to everyone.
Special mention to Mark Westaway (Westo) for being an incredible kayakers and being me eyes and ears out these on the water.
Thanks also to my friend Mark Blackstone from Blackstone Sports Therapy and Sports Massage Exeter and East Devon. for keeping me injury free, and my coaches Jamie Page and Jo John!

Does anyone have a drone and could record me swimming in the sea one or twice over the next 2 months?
Ed? Matt?
Thanks in advance! 🙏🏻
We surpassed 75% of our £8600 goal to buy a NU step for the today!
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported, shared and donated! 🙏🏻
Training is really ramping up now. Just over 11 weeks until my channel swim window opens on 10th September.
Thanks to my incredible sponsor .rebellion The best swimwear I’ve ever worn in my 28 years of swimming.
Thanks also to the brilliant .co for their support
Channel training update
A good bout of training recently:
100x100m off 1min 25sec going time for my last pool swim, late last month.
Steady 3 laps at Budleigh no wetsuit in 12c water and tough currents, in 1hr 9mins. Much more in the tank, probably double the duration.
Another 20mins with the amazing .co ice bath! Thank you guys for such an amazing life of kit! Your icebath is really helping me combat my MS.
All part of my Sep 2024 English Channel swim training to raise money for the

**Channel swim 2024 update**
Final big pool swim before sea swimming ramps up.
100x100m off 1minute 25secs going time.
HR average 143bpm, happy with this.
My Multiple Sclerosis has been playing up more this year resulting in large levels of fatigue, but today has meant things are still on track for a solid channel swim in September.
Thanks to Mark Blackstone Blackstone Sports Therapy and Sports Massage for the sports massage and Jo John and Jamie Page for the swim coaching.
Thanks also to Exe Masters Swimming members Matthew, Katie, Lyndsey & Jamie for joining me and Nigel for timekeeping.
Finally thanks to my ever supportive fiancée Ania for supporting me.
I’m swimming the channel to raise money for the South West MS Centreto buy a specialist piece if exercise equipment (Nu-step) for the centres users.
Any donations or sharing of the channel swim would be much appreciated! £5700 out of £8800 has now been raised 🙏🏻

There is no quick fix's when it comes to weight loss. You need to make certain lifestyle changes and stick with them in the Long term- they don't have to be massive but if you wish to change your body type you need to change something.
You need to build a foundation of solid nutrition and structured physical activity and monitor progress. Finding the balance in your life between what is desirable and what is realistic in the long term make take time but it will enable you to succeed this.

I’ll be on Mel Everett’s BBC radio Devon show sometime in the next hour talking about my English Channel charity swim for the Southwest Multiple Sclerosis centre. Please have a listen on 95.5MHz or on the BBC sounds app if you have a few minutes spare!
****THANK YOU EVERYONE****
I can't believe we've raised £3000! In about one week too! 🙏
Tomorrow I'll be on BBC Radio Cornwall/Devon/Somerset (95.5Mhz) and on BBC sounds sometime between 3.15-4.15pm talking about the channel charity swim and my MS.
Please have a listen if you can.
I'm raising money for the South West MS Therapy Centre to help them buy a specialist piece of exercise equipment called a 'Nu-Step'. These cost £8600.
I could never have imagined that we'd raise the £3000 so quickly! So, with just under a year to go, with everyone's help I'll try and raise as close to £8600 for the MS Therapy centre to be able to buy a new Nu-step outright.
If you have a few minutes to spare please click on this link to read my story and donate:

***EXCITING UPDATE***
I have now set up my Channel Swim CHARITY PAGE. I’ll be raising money for the South West Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre based in Exeter. I aim to help them purchase a specialist piece of exercise equipment called a Nu-Step.
As part of my channel swim 2024 training I managed to swim:
16miles last year in ~7hrs across Torbay bay and back, twice in a row.
~21miles/ 34km in 9hrs at Budleigh Salterton last month.
Next stop: English Channel
I have personally spent around £8000 towards the swim and ALL donations will go directly towards the Nu-Step and NOT the cost of my swim.
Any donations would be much appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance 🙏🏻

My grandad used to say “your health is your wealth”. Eating healthier is a choice you can make to improve your quality of life. Chances are if you eat more protein, more veggies, and drink more water, you’ll improve your health.
When planning on eating out while trying to achieve weight loss, there are many strategies you can employ to help prevent your goals being affected.
Congratulations to our client Lucy who has just run her first 50 kilometre ultramarathon! Very proud! 💪🏻
Congratulations to the three NL Wellness swimmers that swam the Burgh island swim today 👏🏻 Two of them being first timers.
Let’s keep putting those sighting skills to practise!
Well done also to John for brushing off the cobwebs and smashing it on his SwimQuest Swimming Holidays trip in Croatia 👏🏻
While a small percentage of the population have a slow metabolism, usually due to genetic factors, on average obese individuals actually have faster metabolisms:
Pi-Sunyer FX. Obesity: determinants and therapeutic initiatives. Nutrition (Burbank, Los Angeles County, Calif.). 1991 Jul-Aug;7(4):292-294. PMID: 1802223.
Hormones get blamed but people usually don’t know which ones and what their levels actually are. Genetic Leptin deficiencies (one the the body’s main ‘satiety’ -feeling full, hormones) are incredibly rare.
Many people blame specific foods, sugar, sweeteners even vegetables for them not losing weight. People lose equal weight eating different all kinds of nutrients, so long as calories are equated and they actually adhere to the diet:
Reynolds, J. P., Ventsel, M., Kosīte, D., Rigby Dames, B., Brocklebank, L., Masterton, S., ... & Marteau, T. M. (2021). Impact of decreasing the proportion of higher energy foods and reducing portion sizes on food purchased in worksite cafeterias: A stepped-wedge randomised controlled trial. PLoS Medicine, 18(9), e1003743. PMID:
Some people feel like they haven’t got the perfect ‘Macro’ split and blame this for not losing weight. These people are rarely consistent, usually hop from one fad diet to another, and often binge between diets.
MASSIVE congratulations to my client Kirsty for winning her 5k running series 50-54yr age group with a lifetime pb on the last 5k of the year.
24.28mins… not too shabby! Very proud of you 💪🏻
