Foundations Of The Transport System 🚍
In 1956, London Transport (LT) established a recruitment program in the Caribbean, they were followed by other UK organizations like British Rail and the NHS. From 1956 to 1970, LT recruited around 6,000 employees from Barbados, Trinidad, and Jamaica. Initially, many new recruits worked as bus conductors, station staff, and in track maintenance despite their skills and education. These dedicated individuals laid the groundwork for the diverse and vibrant transport system we have today.
Honouring the resilience and contributions of these Caribbean pioneers.
