If you didn’t (& we are so sorry) have a look at our top tips.

We’ve found local Facebook groups could be a good starting point to ask about your given school. Give them a call when the holidays are over (if they are still going) and pay the school a visit. All admissions will go via your local authority (who you applied to) so you will need to chat to them, too.

°• Sounds •°

We've been chatting lots about phonics, sounds, letters, language and communication this month in the School Starters Hub and the Members group. Lots of parents ask us 'How can I help my child prepare for school?' and one of the easiest things is to play lots of games that focus on listening and sounds.

It doesn't have to be tricky, there are lots of great games out there, we're fans of the Orchard toys ones. But if you don't have these, just listening when you're out and about is great and finding sound effects on your music account and talking about what you can hear is fun and so beneficial for sound discrimination and listening skills.

°• Phonics before school •°

Phonics in its basic form is the method in which children are taught to read and later write by learning sounds and how they are represented. You might think that phonics is just for school but there's a whole host of learning that children really need before they begin their school phonics.

Here's 3 of our top tips if you'd like to begin helping your child prepare:

- use sounds rather than letter names when looking at letter shapes
- practise lots of listening in fun ways as this helps children distinguish sounds
- focus on the sounds you hear and say in words

I'm doing a phonics live this Thursday sharing lots of invaluable information about how to support children to learn the skills they need to succeed with phonics at school.
