Step Up Celebrates Pride! 🏳️‍🌈

At Step Up, we believe in creating a safe and inclusive space for everyone we work with, staff and young people alike. That’s why we were thrilled to host a mini Pride celebration right here in our office last Friday (28th June 2024).

We welcomed our staff and the young people we support for a small gathering to celebrate Pride month. We had a spread of refreshing drinks and cupcakes that were almost too pretty to eat (almost!).

Pride is about more than just flags and rainbows, it’s about celebrating diversity, standing up for equality, and creating a world where everyone feels empowered to be their true selves.

At Step Up, we’re proud allies of the LGBTQ+ movement. We know that young people from these communities can face unique challenges, and we’re committed to providing them with the support and resources they need to thrive.

A day in the life of a Support Worker...

What sorts of things will you be doing as a Support Worker with Step Up?
It’s fair to say that no two days will be the same! An individual’s Support Plan outlines the keys areas of support as:

▶️ Budgeting – this could be sitting down with a young person to work out their weekly outgoings or helping them do a weekly shop or applying for relevant benefits.

▶️ Employment – this could be helping them to access employment opportunities through local employers or training providers – or even helping them fill in an Application Form or write a CV.

▶️ Lifestyle – this could be about helping them engage in building new relationships and making new friends, encouraging them to take up a hobby or join a group in something that interests them or helping them establish structure and routine within their daily life.

▶️ Legal Issues – this could be helping them by attending an appointment with a legal advisor, with legal paperwork or even accompanying them to court.

▶️ Health & Wellbeing – this could be helping them make positive health choices, accompanying them to the doctor/dentist or managing health concerns.

▶️ Home Management – this could be anything from helping them to personalise their tenancy, maintaining their tenancy to a good standard as well as being a good neighbour.
