I have to admit this one did bring a tear to my eye ... Monika was so poorly when she came to me. I blubbed as I read it out to my husband over dinner 🥲 this is what Monika Hewson said:

I also managed to harvest some tenderstem broccoli that I moved into the greenhouse to protect over the winter. Quite a bit now sprouting. Can't believe it, never grown broccoli before :))

The last few weekends I have ventured into my greenhouse to start sprouting seeds. Tomatoes, carrots, cucumber, pepper, chilli, butternut, brussels, cabbage, broccoli, peas and radish are not in pots. Yay - roll on summer!

I thought I was a pretty healthy person with a good diet, until I started this education. The Benefits of Bitters

Bitter herbs, spices and foods offer valuable benefits and can go a long way toward improving your overall health by improving digestion, gastrointestinal health and absorption of nutrients.

Much in the same way bitter compounds help protect the plant from harmful influences, they can be helpful in your body by inhibiting microbe growth, oxidation and inflammation.

Commercially available bitter tinctures include Swedish Bitters, but another easy way of getting more bitters into your diet is simply to add more bitter greens to your salads. Eating these as a ‘starter’ before you eat your meal will improve the digestion of the foods that follow.

My morning mug of green tea is a daily staple for me. I used to hate the stuff; much preferred my PG Tips with cows milk. But when I decided to come off pasteurised milk, I needed another option (as PG with Oat Milk just didn’t cut the mustard) and Green Tea it became. It took me many months to get used to it but now I wouldn’t be without it. It’s so refreshing and gives a kick-start to my day.

And now I know why it makes me feel so good. Green tea contains a wealth of beneficial polyphenols, including EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which has an amazing ability to relax your arteries and improve blood flow – something super useful as a sufferer of Reynaud’s Disease!

I read some research recently which stated drinking about 0.5 to 2.5 cups of green tea daily for at least one year reduced the risk of developing high blood pressure by 46%, while those consuming more than 2.5 cups reduced their risk by 65%. Wow! Powerful stuff. So start drinking your daily dose of EGCG today 😊

If your happiness could use a boost, commit to cultivating an attitude of gratitude. It not only boosts life satisfaction, it’s also the single best predictor of good relationships, and benefits both sanity and physical health.

Gratitude involves affirming the good in your life and recognizing its sources. It is the understanding that life owes you nothing, and that the good things in your life are gifts that cannot be taken for granted.

When you start seeing everything as a gift, opposed to things you’ve deserved (for better or worse), your sense of gratitude will begin to swell. Another way to practice gratitude when life leaves you uninspired is to identify and express gratitude for seemingly “useless” or insignificant things.

A simple exercise: Each day take a photo of something that you are grateful for and file it in your ‘grateful album’.

Tea With or Without Plastic?

In an analysis of tea bags, researchers found that those sealed in plastic release billions of plastic particles with every cup that’s brewed.

Tea is an ancient beverage, recognized for the positive impact it has on health and the important role it plays in cultures around the world. There are significant health benefits to drinking tea, so it would be wise to continue the habit, while substituting tea bags for loose leaf tea. Or buy tea in bags from a reputable company that doesn’t use plastic or bleach in their manufacturing.

I grew mint this year and drank it freshly picked every. It tasted so sweet and delicious. Before winter arrived I picked a load and dried it for my tea over the winter.

Today I planted 20 garlic cloves. I just used the cloves from some organic garlic bulbs and pushed them 1 inch into the soil about 6 inches apart. In the early Spring next year they will start germinating and will be ready to harvest in the Summer.

I love garlic, especially when gently fried in butter 😋 There are many health benefits to this little bulb and it is a perfect addition to a cyclical paleo-keto lifestyle. Happy sowing!
