This beautiful collage has been created for the Crysse Morrison Prize for Poetry event being held on Monday 10th July in the Merlin Theatre as part of Frome Festival. It's going to be a fabulous evening with stand-up poet/comedian Elvis McGonagall and prize winning poet, Rosie Jackson. There are also guest performances from Liv Torc, Gordon Graft and Jo Butts. We will be announcing the winner of the inaugural Frome Festival poetry competition and you can find out more at www.fromefestival.co.uk (tickets£7.50). Everyone is invited...
When I moved to Frome I missed 'up close and personal theatre' so I asked the then landlord of The Lamb Inn in Frome if he would put on some pub theatre, he said 'you do it and I'll put it on'. So I set up a company called Nevertheless Productions and my first co-producer decided on a different path even though we had advertised in the then 2011 Frome Festival brochure. I approached Crysse Morrison and asked her to become my co-producer and she said 'it would be my privilege'. And the rest, as they say, is history. Crysse left us today, dancing her way to a bigger party. Goodbye to my beautiful friend. I will miss you forever...
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to see our site-specific piece of theatre as part of the Celebrated Women of Frome exhibition in Frome Festival 2022. Thank you to David Lassman for giving us the opportunity and to Frome Museum for their tireless hospitality (especially Brian). We loved bringing the exhibition to life and co-producing with Debdo Adventures and especially Debbie Clayton. And a big fat thank you goes out to our troupe of fabulous actors, Wendy Dopheide, Becki Bradley, Sarah Clayton and June Bianchi. Finally, below is some lovely audience feedback...
You are all so creative. I love it so much ...
I really enjoyed this!!! Highly recommended 😍
Obviously, people may think I am biased, as I am the curator of the exhibition which inspired THE AUDITIONS, but I truly believe that the actors (as well as the writing) did each of the represented Celebrated Women proud in the performance that I watched this afternoon. It was in turn entertaining, funny and at certain points, even poignant.
What an ingenious idea - and such entertaining performances - many congratulations to all.
Brilliant, funny, entertaining and great performances!
This was fab. What a great way to introduce some of the strong women who have passed through Frome over the years. Thank you
Really enjoyed it. Exactly what the Frome Festival is about.
Today is the last day to catch these two going head to head on Britain's Got Talent 2022. It's Christina Rossetti and Emma Sheppard discussing pancake poems! All part of the Celebrated Women of Frome exhibition at Frome museum. Performances at 2.30pm and 4.30pm and tickets can be bought on the door (£8).
One of our favourite photos from The Auditions rehearsals! Tickets will be on sale on the door of the Frome Museum on Saturday and Sunday at 2.30pm and 4.30pm...
Frome Museum's tower window celebrates Goblin Market - a shocking tale of addiction, mania, and madness written in 1859 by a WOMAN! Meet the extraordinary poet who disdained her ordinary life in Frome and wrote fantastic tales still celebrated throughout the world... how will she fare at "The Auditions"???
Frome Festival, 9th & 10th July, 2.30 & 4.30, at the museum.
Fabulous rehearsals yesterday for THE AUDITIONS in Frome museum in preparation for the Frome Festival! And that naughty Christina Rossetti dragged us all down to the Blue Boar for a pint!
😀 Four chances to catch THE AUDITIONS at Frome Museum: Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 July, 2.30 and 4.30 both days 👏
Frome Festival 2022! Watch this space...
Nevertheless, like all theatre companies, has had to adapt to a different kind of approach to performance over the last couple of years, but the 2022 Frome Festival will see us back in town -though not where you may expect... more news coming soon!
Frome Festival is back for 2021 ... but sadly "Somerset's first and only pub theatre" is currently without a viable venue for our planned production of 'I'm Talking To You' so this event is cancelled.
Sadly but not unexpectedly, Nevertheless 2020 summer production of 'I'm Talking to You' will be postponed.
Like the rest of the festival, we will be back... Stay safe all.
😲 😃 Wow! A deluge of superb scripts submitted for our 2020 Frome Festival Production 'I'm Talking to You..' - dramatic monologues on the theme of 'mistake'... made selection really difficult - but we now have six scripts that we're sure you'll enjoy on THURSDAY JULY 9TH - Upstairs at the Cornerhouse - still just £5 for an hour of quality entertainment. Two shows - 8pm and 9.30pm - make sure you state when buying your ticket which you want.🏃♀️🏃♂️
Entry window for our Frome Festival 2020 production
"I'M TALKING TO YOU"
will close at midnight tonight!
Thanks to all the writers who have submitted - we look forward to reading your dramatic monologues on the theme of 'mistake'... 😀✍️🎭

Feedback forms now fully digested, requests to join the mailing list fulfilled, and note duly taken of other comments:
We asked what the audience thought of the venue, and - not unexpectedly, nearly everyone mentioned the heat! Additional comments appreciated the atmosphere and intimacy - “Felt like it was happening in my head” with ‘Perfect for intimate theatre’ typical responses though 2 people would have preferred a bigger venue. ‘Comfy’ and ‘cosy’ also frequent comments, with appreciation for the lay-out, and for the visibility and audibility. Overall, a big thumbs-up for Upstairs at the Cornerhouse apart from the heat, with comments like: “Brilliant, felt like watching a performance in my own living room” and “Lovely room - enjoyed the intimate atmosphere. It was a bit hot - but it is July! “
We asked if supporting pub theatre was important, and response was overwhelmingly positive, with intimacy and atmosphere again topping the list. Accessibility and low cost were key too - ‘Lots to think about, a good night out and very reasonably priced’ - with several comments about the need to support local writers and actors: ‘The best way for drama to happen now Rep has gone is in small spaces.’ Quality of productions was a major factor too. ‘It’s fun, writers and actors extremely talented. Never fails to entertain.’
Thanks everyone who submitted their views. And remember: ‘Pub theatres are lush! Informal, always see something you've not seen before.’
