As most would have known I had put out an announcement 3 weeks ago stating that we'd be closed for 2 weeks for holidays, these holidays were long over due but we ended up working through these holidays too completing some jobs on these days.

However in the last few months our mental health side of things has taken a turn and descended very quickly. You may find that when I've attended your jobs I'm the usual happy, smiling, welcoming mechanic that always puts the customers first and this is something that will never change! You'll always recieve this service on your appointments!

The issue is what's hiding behind this smiling welcome service, I'm breaking down, I'm exhausted physically and mentally, I've got a constant migraine and lack of energy. I've built this business up to where it is today, I've been working none stop from June to achieve this. This is wake up to going to sleep work, it's traveling throughout the day to jobs, then completing jobs, then home to do paperwork, organise the next days jobs, do quotes, order parts, arrange the van ect and I'm a one man band that's trying to do this while have time with my son. I appreciate the ones who have helped me build to where I am, the ones who understand that I can't reply straight away or answer phone calls ect and understanding the opening hours.

However what is becoming more of a issue lately is the sheer audacity of people that are expecting me to drop all that I'm doing to go help them! I'm all for helping people as much as I can as most of you all understand, however what I don't respect is the ones that are constantly phoning, ive had ones phone every day from 7am to 11pm at least 10 times a day! (My opening hours as stated on all platforms is 9-5:30 Monday to Friday) I always state on my voicemails that the phone isn't answered during the day due to how busy I can be and to leave a message but yet the same numbers continue to phone 2-3 times in a row, even on the weekends ect. I've not always got my phone on me and only see these missed calls when I'm back near a phone. This alone is very down putting! As said I'm all for helping everyone but there comes a point where I turn away this custom due to their actions! This isn't just one number this is various different numbers every day these occurrences happen. I understand that were highly recommended and rated but there's also other mobile mechanics and garages out there that can assist especially when the holiday voicemail is set. The phone has been set to airplane mode also during most of the holiday period.

I have an extreme amount of messages of new and returning customers that I need to get back to as well for bookings so please note I will get back round to any messages that have been left over the holiday period but I do ask if you still require this assistance then please do give me a updated message to let me know, this way I can filter the ones that are still requiring assistance compared to the ones that have managed to get assistance elsewhere. I appreciate all your messages and returning customers too.

There's going to be changes happening with immediate effect and will be in place until further notice, this is to allow me to be able to balance these current mental health issues and provide the top standard of service I always provide.

So please note there is going to be limited booking spaces per week and will be booked in advance.
There will be no same day or next day booking slots.
We will only be carrying out light general maintenance at present, e.g brakes, servicing, most diagnostic, suspension and various other light repair work. We will not be carrying out clutches, timing belts, gearboxes, engine rebuilds ect however we will be reproviding these again in the future once things have settled.

Id like to just thank yous all once again for the support, recommendations and custom yous have gave me its really helped in every way possible and I appreciate every last bit of it as yous will all know I always go above and beyond for my customers and will still continue to do this so please understand the slightly delays at present.

We have been working basically every day morning to night since starting up fully in June, so now it's time for a bit of time off to be able to try destress and get be able to work on our own vehicles also. We also bought this car in October to do some work on and have some fun times in it in summer but we've not been able to do any work to it so we'll be doing some work on this car too, so keep eyes peeled for any updates on it too 👀

You don't go to McDonald's with a burger and ask them to cook it for you so what makes a mechanic different ?!

We'd just like to highlight how much we care about our reputation and our professionalism.

We never use the word 'cheap' this word screams out unprofessional, unqualified, uninsured and problems going to arise. We have very high standards here using only top quality parts along with top quality consumables ect, we take great pride in our work and in our customers, we take each customer on in a personal level not just another number level! We speak to customers and have general conversations on each visit, we take care of there car as if it's our own!

We also believe it shows how well someone's reputation is by there waiting time, currently were 2/3 weeks wait although we are trying to help people in between if we're near by ect, but if someone attends to you within a hour of the message or books you in for the next day then we believe that shows alot about thier reputation.

We are not here as a second choice! If you message us for a quote or advice and you chose to blatantly ignore the quote or advice whether that be through message or a comment on a post and then after someone else attends or fails to attend and then you wish us to attend then we will not attend. We give everyone the opportunity and all we ask is if you ask for a quote simply a message back to acknowledge this is appreciated with no acknowledgement we will not reply in the future if you remessage. Were too busy to play games and be picked up when chosen second.

You may get someone coming out and doing a service in 30 minutes, replacing your brakes in 30 minutes then taking the money to never be heard from or seen again with no conversation. Here at McKay mobile mechanic we take that bit longer to complete the job correctly, clean everything up and grease it all correctly along with cleaning up leaving no trace behind on the driveway! We pride our selfs on our reputation, our customer engagement and our workmanship!

So next time your looking for a mechanic, if the price is too good to be true then as the saying goes, it is! Do you want to spend tens of thousands on a car to then have someone appear in a family car with tools in the boot, putting cheap parts on your vehicle not explaining the process ect just there caring about the money?

🚙🛑 BRAKE REPLACEMENTS🛑🚙

We have been extremely busy lately with jobs ect so haven't had a chance to get near messages, emails ect.

We have also attended a lot of brake jobs recently that have been requested for just 'pad replacement' upon arrival and inspect of the brakes we've found the brake discs to be in a poor condition that we refuse to fit new brake pads too.

We refuse because we have high standards, we're not putting our name on a job that has poor condition brake discs, especially the safety aspect of it! Also the fact that the discs in a poor condition would ruin the new pads in no time and also give you vibrations as you brake. Others may fit pads to poor condition brakes for you but as said we've high standards not cowboys 🤠.

So from now on there will be no job being accepted for just brake pad replacement, it will only be accepted for brake pad and discs replacement! We cant afford to attend the job to find it needs discs to then try to reschedule juggling other work about to then reattend to replace the discs!

Again this is brakes, the things that make your car stop. Put your safety first before you go cheap and get cowboys 🤠 we also do not offer a 'fitting only' service we only offer a supply and fit service! We do this due to our insurance and also because we have pride in our name and only use high quality parts!

This is not a 'make money' scheme this is about your safety, our workmanship and our reputation and honesty along with saving you to pay to have the job done twice!

⚠️🚨🤠 POP UP MECHANICS 🤠 🚨⚠️

We have previously warned about this and also stated the signs of what to look out for and what we also offer.

We have seen a massive influx as usual when the weather gets nicer and the nights get lighter that these 'pop up mechanics' appear on Facebook. These are uninsured, unqualified, Unregistered and unregulated mechanics. They are working out the back of a family car doing jobs 'on the cheap' that when the job goes wrong or the parts fail they'll simply disappear leaving you out of pocket or without a car! If it's too good to be true it always is!

We are also seeing a massive influx of really bad advice from non mechanics on Facebook, end of the day they're giving bad advice that could cause a lot more damage to your vehicle! Always consult a professional instead of a 'googler' and 'guesser'!

End of the day our prices are set, these prices cover our qualifications and upcoming training courses, insurance for public, product, road testing and our vehicles, road tax, tools and equipment, fuel, travel time, business tax and national insurance, accountants. These pop up mechanics have none of this to cover hence the cheap prices that will end up costing you a lot more!

We have stated before also that we would not attend a job that needs corrected due to the failure from these mechanics, we will also not attend a job that has had a previous quote that has ignored that quote without even a acknowledgement message back. End of the day we've worked for over 13 years building up our qualifications and skills and equipment that has cost over £20k at present! We're not here to be a second choice.

🔐🚗 BREAK IN AND ENTRY🚗🔐

Well its been one of they weeks yet again we've been extremely non stop from morning to night. As before we are trying to get round to messages, calls, emails ect as soon as we can but we're extremely delayed due to being out in the van non stop then having to catch up with paperwork ect when home, there's literally not enough time in a day to work, reply, phone suppliers, do quotes and have family time ect so we are trying our best!

This week saw 2 vehicles with failed locking mechanisms!

First we had this Ford focus in for a battery replacement, but this style of focus has a key in the grill lock style, unfortunately this cable and lock had failed although it has had a previous repair done by someone before but temporarily repairs aren't forever! We managed to get the grill removed, old lock removed and all replaced with a new lock mechanism and cable system.

Second we had this seat Leon with a failed boot catch, you could hear the motor trying to work the lock but failing to open, we got this boot open, panel removed and new lock unit supplied and fitted.

📆FULLY BOOKED TILL MARCH📆

Well what a month January has been! It's been absolutely non stop morning till night. We've been trying to keep on top of all contact methods to give advice or book in customers for future repairs, but being just one man out in the freezing cold and wind from morning till night then trying to catch up with the daily paperwork each night means we can't get round to responses for a few days at a time.

Please note also that we are currently booked out for the full of February! Our next available appointments are from the start of March although these are filling up fast too! We will still try to accommodate any new bookings during this period but we cannot promise appointments, we can only attend depending on the job and area.

We have also been working very hard in the background to take our next step and get the current waiting times back down so please keep your eyes peeled but there's a teaser coming this week too 👀

We'll the weather has now finally matched the craziness of our phone calls, messages, emails ect! As before we had said how crazy and non stop our phone had been a long with how booked out we are!

This weather certainly hasn't stopped us, we've been out in the -9, the heavy rain, the snow and the heavy wind storm. Nothing is stopping us now!

Again we'd like to thank all customers and all future customers and messages for the patience in replying to messages ect but it's just still been so crazy and alot of messages are getting missed ect were trying our hardest but we're a one man band at current!

📆🤯UPDATE FULLY BOOKED 📆🤯

Yesterday we posted about how we were extremely busy and booked out until at least the 24th! We'd just like to update this to that we are now fully booked out for the next 2 weeks! Meaning our next appointments are from the week starting 29th!

Never in a million years starting out this business did I think I'd be booked out for a few days never mind 2 weeks! It's been unbelievable support and understanding and I thank yous all.

As previously stated also there's going to be changes in the near future that is going to massive difference to response times and appointments.

Please bare with us at this current time, we have been absolutely inundated with messages, phone calls, emails ect, in the last 2 weeks we have had over 150 missed calls! Various number of messages, texts, emails ect, its went crazy over this festive period. We wish we could reply to everyone but we simply have not enough time to do this as we are a one man band currently.

We have been out morning till night each day these last couple of weeks to get some of the jobs cleared but the work just keeps building up but we appreciate every single one of yous.

Please also note that we cannot answer the phone during the day as we will end up writing down the notes on a bit of paper that would end up getting lost in the van ect so please either leave a text message or a voicemail and we will respond as soon as we can even though currently we have a list of messages to go through.

We were currently planning something for the future to be able to cope and get through these jobs and messages ect quicker but this has now been brought forward a bit so it will happen alot sooner than expected so keep eyes peeled.👀🚙🚙

📢CLOSED FOR CHRISTMAS📢

We have worked extremely hard these last couple of weeks from early morning to late at night to make sure we could attend everyone we can to get everyone back onto the road for Xmas!

We were going to be having a week off next week but we have been extremely inundated with messages, calls, emails ect that we've had no choice but to work through this period! We will be working on a extremely tight schedule thought with very limited jobs being done! We are fully booked but will try squeeze anyone in over this week if we can!

All outstanding messages, calls and emails for quotations or request will be answer on a slow basis over the next few days, we try to reply as quickly as we can but we have very limited free time in a day to do this so please bear with us.

❗❗UNPAID INVOICES❗❗

We have had a couple of occasions where we've been a good will gesture of allowing customers to pay the invoice the following day to allow them back on the road until there pay day! This will soon be stopping due to some spoiling it for others! We can't keep chasing up invoices as we're extremely busy!

Also we have a initial call out/diagnostic fee of £65 this applies to all jobs and is the cheapest around for the mobile mechanic call out! Rac/click mechanic ect will charge you more than this! This fee is there to be paid wither the car is repaired or not! It covers our time, fuel, insurances, diagnostic equipment ect.

We had a 'customer' contact us for a call out of a vehicle not starting, we told them we are fully booked out till the New Year but due to there location being near by we'd attended to help them have their car on the road for Christmas, so we attended this morning and found the vehicle engine ecu was faulty and not allowing communications with other ecus, this repair alone exceeds the value of the car, we advised said customer of the possible repair costs and that it would need a auto electrician who we linked onto the 'customer' all well and good, fault diagnosed, customer advised of uneconomical repair cost, auto electrician passed onto customer. Then it came to the call out payment! 'Why should I pay when you've not fixed it' because the initial call out diagnostic fee applies to all jobs as stated on the website you booked through! I've diagnosed the fault so the fee covers that, £1000's of pounds of computers ain't free! 'na I'm not paying' 'how about £30' Na the bill is £65 that needs paid. 'theres £60' na it's £65 not £60. I'm the one who makes the prices your welcome to go get aa/rac/click mechanic ect and pay them more!

I'm doing a favour of squeezing customers in to get them on the road for Christmas so they don't miss time with family! I'm now working later tonight to do the jobs I had booked in already.

We are closing from this evening for the next week, we will try accomodate customers during this period if it's a general emergency/repair as best as we can but this will now be due with a payment up front!

🫂CUSTOMERS AND SUPPLIERS🫂

So we've previously posted up about how all our customers have recieved a Christmas card via the post, all entered into a free giveaway of the meat pack which one of our previous customers won and have all received selection boxes for any jobs within December that had small children.

Now it's time to say thank you to our suppliers and other supporting business's within the area along with our previous work colleagues from over the years. We tried to work out what to get to suit everyone as it's the time of the year where this trade receives a lot of alcohol so we thought why not give them all a sweet treat so Krispy Kreme doughnuts it was!

Again we'd like to thank all customers, suppliers and local business that have helped us get to where we are today, it's been amazing. We always have been and always will be customer focused! Customers definitely come first and recieve the best service.

P.s how do you explain to a accountant how you've spent a small fortune on Christmas gifts, doughnuts, cards, give aways 🤔🙈, plenty more giveaways in the future still 😝

So we had this Mercedes sprinter in for a no handbrake, grinding noise from the rear wheels, we checked this over and when spinning the rear wheel could feel the binding and a terrible noise and knew straight away that the handbrake shoes had fallen apart in side, so we removed the disc to find the hand brake shoes ripped off the backing plate and completely misshaped and adjusters ect all missing.

Upon removal of the shaft too we found the wheel bearing covered in congealed oil/grease so this was due a replacement bearing, we fitted new backing plates, handbrake shoes, springs, adjusters, wheel bearing, 2 x rear handbrake cables and 1 front to rear handbrake cable along with a new hand brake compensator! We also carried out a overdue rear axle diff oil change.

🩺 START FROM THE BOTTOM🩺

When it comes to diagnostics it's always the most sensible and cost effective way is to start from the bottom and work your way through different tests ect to find out the true issue with a vehicle rather than firing a parts cannon at it cost the owner a overall fortune!

This vehicle belongs to a repeat customer of ours, it was previously in at Arnold Clark for its mot which it failed on emissions, so rather than starting at the bottom to find out why it's been overfueling and failing emissions Arnold Clark decided that it needed a new catalytic converter! So they fitted an aftermarket one which still failed emissions and then fitted a genuine which just made the emissions pass! Surely that's the first sign to tell them the fault lies else where! A catalytic converter especially a brand new genuine one for the part alone would easily be £500! Plus labour at Arnold Clarks £125+ VAT a hour!

The real cause of these high emissions was infact a service able item which should have been the first thing to check for overfueling! Spark plugs a very simple job and check they should have performed! We removed these old spark plugs to find bits corroded/broken off these plugs a long time ago! Just look at the tips where it sparks I'm surprised it still managed to run correctly! Look at the difference with the new Bosch spark plugs to the old deteriorated ones!

This is why we always start from the bottom and work your way up the fault finding. Spark plugs supply and fit is a fraction of the cost of a new genuine catalytic converter supply and fit!
