My little boy is just over 6 months old and we have recently started weaning him. We have started using the signs for 'more' and 'all gone' during his meal times to encourage him and as you can see he loves the praise when he finishes all his food! (He is also OBSESSED with my phone so candid moments aren't so easy to capture with him performing for the camera 🤣)
For those of you thinking about using signs with your little one, it's never too early to incorporate signs into your daily routines. Just choose a few key concepts and use them regularly and model positive communication for them.
The Makaton Signing for Babies and Families course is an ideal way to learn some signs and get some ideas for how to introduce signing for your little one.

Such a great example of how important processing time, understanding and encouragement are in being an effective communication partner. We can often assume someone has nothing to say if they don't respond immediately. We can rush people through if they're taking 'too much time'. Its easy to jump in and offer support, but sometimes, time is all that is needed to allow individuals to develop and use their voice. Michael Sheen allowed Leo the time he needed to get over his nerves and prepare himself to ask his own question. You could see how proud Leo was of himself not only that he was able to ask the question himself, but that Michael Sheen responded so positively to his question. Lovely video!
I received this message from one of my lovely participants and I cannot tell you how much it warmed my heart! "Just thought I would let you know Hope has started singing back to us. She can do Pig and Octopus. Thank you for giving us our first experience of Makaton. I may be back soon to do some additional levels x" Look at this little star working on her signing!
