It's hard to make sense of things when we are overwhelmed with anxiety.
Our thoughts can race and become muddled, we can overthink a problem until we’re unable to take any action at all, and our inner critic can become very loud and persistent.
Can you take some time this week to be still and just breathe...to slow everything down...to find some calm?
A busy schedule doesn't always bring personal fulfilment and a sense of purpose. Adding more to your agenda, even activities that are meant to promote wellbeing, may not bring you peace.
Sometimes we just have to step back and have a think. What are you doing that genuinely brings you joy and satisfaction? Are they getting lost in the chaos of your busy life? What can you let go of so that you can make room for the things that you really find rewarding, productive and purposeful.
If you're feeling overwhelmed I can help you to take that step back.
We all have good days, "meh" days and bad days, that's how it is for us humans.
Here's a little reminder of the basics we can all try so we can make a difference to our days. It's good to notice the areas where we might be lacking, and even making small daily improvements can bring big rewards.
Why practice gratitude?
Writing down, and reflecting on, three things that we are grateful for, no matter how big or small, refocuses our attention from thoughts that may be making us feel not so great, and from feelings that may be affecting the way that we think. It is a purposeful way to reach a more pleasant emotional state.
As with all new skills, the more you practice , the easier it becomes and you can then use it as a tool to shift your thoughts and mood. We can't stop thoughts from popping into our head, but we can control how we respond to them.
Hypnotherapy can support you if you are struggling right now.
Have you ever noticed how your breath becomes faster and shallower when you are feeling anxious? You are getting prepared to fight or run away from a situation that your brain perceives to be a threat.
It's important to consciously connect with the breath to let the brain know you're okay and to calm the response, so here's a little breathing exercise for you.
I can help if you are struggling with feelings of anxiety at the moment.

"Everyone is too busy rushing around these days"
That's what a lady out on her horse said to me yesterday when I was out walking the pooch. And she's right. Even when we are not physically trying to get things done, our brain is reminding us that we have things to do. We are not built to live in a constant state of "doing", and it's affecting our mental health.
We need to take time to properly connect in a meaningful way
- connect with ourselves
- connect with others
- connect with the world around us
- connect with nature
I'm a big fan of Dr Chatterjee, British physician and advocate of both our physical and mental wellbeing. He developed this little coping strategy and I find it really useful, maybe you will too.
