The Flat Cap Photographer
From a young age, I have been fascinated with cameras. My goals for the immediate future are to celebrate and showcase my local area.
I am taking on new photographic challenges including; Industry Photography, Charity Events and any other opportunities.
I had the honour and privilege of supporting The Methodist Church in documenting the 250-year celebration since John Wesley first preached at Mount Zion; with the Vice-President of the Methodist Conference and Methodist Tapestries Collection.

Celebrating Wesley at Mount Zion - Methodist Church God loves you unconditionally, no strings attached. That's the good news.
As many of my followers know, I have had the honour and privilege of volunteering with Mount Zion Methodist Heritage Chapel for over 8 years. This Sunday marks 250 years since John Wesley, the founder of Methodism first preached at Mount Zion and we are commemorating this occasion with an open day, featuring a pop-up exhibition of the Methodist Tapestries Collection, from The Weardale Museum and with a special service, joined by The Vice-President of the Methodist Conference & District Chair of the Yorkshire West Methodist District at 2:30pm.
Visitors of all denominations and faiths, or of none, are welcome. Please come along and support Mount Zion's event!

Mount Zion Methodist Heritage Chapel on Good Friday
Did you know that the Octagonal Chapel in Heptonstall is world famous?
That fame is largely due to its strong connection with the founding Methodist, John Wesley, who laid the foundation stones for the Chapel back in 1764.
You can find out more here: https://www.calderdalemethodistcircuit.org.uk/churches/heptonstall.html
On the edge of Ogden Moor stands this historic chapel, Mount Zion. While the facade presents a relatively ordinary appearance, the interior is magnificent, and in amazing condition for over 200 years old.
It is a privilege and an honour to support the chapel and raise the profile of this wonderful Methodist Heritage site.

๐ข JOIN OUR TRUSTEE TEAM ๐ข
We are a strong team of volunteer trustees with skills ranging from ground engineering and landscape architecture through to commercial management and digital media. We currently operate on a shoestring budget, entirely voluntary, and we wish to see this expand. This will allow us to increase our outreach activities.
Two proposed new Trustee roles of Fundraising, and Project & People Management, are central to our plans for the future.

A great write up by Ben Fenton, Calderdale Council on the new "Art as Natural Flood Management" project, inspired by the work at Hardcastle Crags, by Slow The Flow and the National Trust and other partners' projects in the latest Landscape Institute Journal.
I am always delighted to see my photographs used in different media to help raise awareness and celebrate the incredible work in my local area.

I am incredibly proud of my hometown Halifax, rich with Heritage and Culture.
๐IT IS NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK ๐
This week, 1st- 7th June we are celebrating our wonderful volunteers.
Sam has been supporting his father, Matthew Townsend, Property Steward, with maintaining the grounds for over 6 years.
Sam has recently taken on the role of Social Media/Comms and archivist for both Mount Zion Methodist Heritage Chapel and Heptonstall Methodist Heritage Chapel.
Sam says: "Mount Zion is set in an idyllic landscape. It is a privilege to help share the word of this beautiful building and the importance of being the first Chapel in the Methodist New Connexion."
Please contact him with any queries via [email protected] or social media.
I really enjoy using both my and for photography. Practising my skills on incredible buildings such as Heptonstall Methodist Heritage Chapel is a privilege in an attempt to uplift their PR whilst going through a challenging transition.
Whilst I am always endevouring in my limited spare time to take photographs with my camera and drone around Yorkshire. I am also currently persuing a Masters by Reseach at The University of Huddersfield, investigating the impacts of Natural Flood Managment Wood Strucutures (leaky woody dams) and the impact they have on biogeochemical process (water quality.)

Mount Zion is a designated heritage chapel and a significant site in the history of Methodism. Methodism's founder, John Wesley, regularly visited Mount Zion and stayed in the cottage which still adjoins the chapel.
The chapel Wesley preached in was built in 1773 but was replaced by the current building in 1815. It is regularly open to visitors and still stages regular services, although Mount Zion no longer has a congregation of its own. Another important historic note is that Mount Zion was a church which joined the Methodist New Connexion following the death of Wesley.
Another notable feature is that Mount Zion hosts the Horace Hird Collection of Methodist Ceramics, the majority of which is on display in the chapel. The reserve collection is available by request to serious students of either fine arts or Methodist history.
Mount Zion has its own website https://www.mountzionhalifax.org.uk/ where it is possible to see much about the history of the chapel and Sunday School. Look inside the beautiful chapel, and search the graveyard online for your relatives!
Sadly there is no bus service which serves Mount Zion, the nearest is to Pavement Lane and Causeway Foot.
Recent improvements mean that there is now a ramp enabling disabled access at the front gate to the chapel grounds. There is disabled access to the ground floor of the chapel and cottage but, sadly, there is no wheelchair access to toilet facilities. Parking is at the rear for disabled people, with roadside parking for everyone else.
Mount Zion's cottage is available for day conferences/meetings, and teas can be arranged for a maximum of 25.
Strong links have been forged with local schools and the chapel plays host to school party visits and stages Victorian days for pupils. Arrangements can be made through for personnel to go into schools โ contact the circuit heritage officer via email at [email protected].
The chapel hosts regular events โ watch the Mount Zion website or our page for future developments.
As mentioned earlier, the chapel retains its worship licence and hosts services at intervals throughout the year. See the Plan for details of the services.

I am incredibly proud to volunteer for Slow The Flow and help support them with the fantastic work they do at NT Hardcastle Crags with Natural Flood Management and within the local community promoting Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems .
From October I will be joining the University of Huddersfield Applied Science Research Team, working with Slow The Flow to investigate: the influence of natural flood management ( ) wood structures on biogeochemical processes in headwater streams.
I hope to continue to use my platform to promote the wonders of my local area, Calderdale, support local charity organisation and wherever my research takes me.

I was very proud and humbled to have supported The Kallipateira Moorhouse Foundation and Ben Moorhouse, who completed his 180 mile non-stop extreme challenge walk from London to Manchester on Monday [18/07/22].
The Director of Tommy's Stillbirth Research Centre Rainbow Clinic, Professor Alexander Heazell, joined Ben walking the home stretch.

It has been a privilege to capture the installation of the Flower Waterfall at Illingworth Moor Methodist Church.
It was heart-warming to see the community together after everything which has happened in 2020.
Illingworth has now has a beautiful yet thought-provoking reminder of those who we have sadly lost due to COVID-19 and the key workers who are helping us through this pandemic.
A special thanks to Abbotsford for donating surplus felt swatches helping to make this possible.
It was heart-warming to help photograph this momentous event, a Flower Parade between Mount Zion Heritage Chapel, Ogden, Halifax to Illingworth Moor Methodist Church.
The flowers represent those who we have sadly lost due to COVID-19 and the key-workers who are helping us through this pandemic.
The waterfall will be installed and dedicated this coming Sunday (October 24th) with an outdoor blessing service at 3pm at Illingworth Moor Methodist Church which everyone is invited to.
Also a special thanks to Abbotsford for donating surplus felt swatches helping to make this possible.
