🤓 An evening with Steven Bartlett at the Apollo last night.

🤯 Wow. Just wow! I feel like there were too many gems to share really but the premise of his talk was understanding the metaphorical mountain of life.

🏔️ For me it is so incredibly re assuring to hear someone like Steven talk about his struggle in the beginning and his continued struggle sometimes in reaching the next level. The ‘failures’ or disappointments etc it’s just all part of it

🚀 My biggest take aways were

- We have to stop fearing failure. All if the best companies fail fast and you only need a few big wins to compensate for the perceived failures
- We have to stop being afraid of NO. I definitely need to work on this one!
- Finally - focus on the brick. Steven shared a story from Will Smith about building a wall when he was younger. It took about 18 months but the point was, all you can do is focus on that one brick at a time. Thinking about the enormous task ahead is too over whelming. So a good reminder to just do the little things and do them well. I’m going to focus on breaking down my goals even further this next week to get more done and take the pressure off

📖 I was reading the ‘12 Week Year’ last weekend and it talks about the emotional cycle of change which has literally blown my mind!

🤓Everytime we try something new or make a change starting a new job, an exercise regime, a business etc we can go through the 5 stages of emotional change.

📘 When I read the passage in the book I felt like someone had been inside my head and explained exactly how I had been feeling! And this is science people 😂 the fact that this is a researched, documented psychological phase all of us go through, suddenly took the pressure off and made me feel better. It’s not just me who goes into any new challenge excited and then loses some steam!

The stages
1) UNIFORMED OPTIMISM- Some could argue the best stage! 😂 You’re just starting out, bright eyed, bushy tailed- what could go wrong?! You don’t know what you don’t know at this stage

2) INFORMED PESSIMISM- At this stage maybe a couple of things haven’t gone the way you wanted, you’re disappointed and losing steam/ low on energy

3) THE VALLEY OF DESPAIR- I actually laughed out loud when I read this part because it was so dramatic 😂 but also true! This is the low point if you hadn’t guessed. You haven’t seen the results you wanted- you question everything- maybe your old job wasn’t that bad? It would be easier to quit etc- DONT! There are only two options when you are here- go back and stay stuck In a loop of cycle 1-3 OR push through. Just. Keep. Going! 💪🏼💪🏼

4) INFORMED OPTIMISM- You made it out the other side!! Hurrah 🙌🚀👏 Well done! You’re feeling better, more positive and the results of your hard work are starting to show!

5) SUCCESS & FULFILMENT - You did it!! 🚀🥳 Enjoy this part- you worked for it! You finally get to enjoy all the rewards for your hard work and things are feeling easier and enjoyable!!

As an entrepreneur or property investor- be aware that you may repeat this cycle many times! Maybe everytime you try a new strategy!! But now you know the formula 🤓

My advice for starting out in property?

Get yourself in the room!

There will be so much you don’t know and it’s difficult getting out of your comfort zone and starting again but will it be worth it? Absolutely!

Are you interested in starting but don’t know how or where to even start?

1) listen to property podcasts
2) read property Books
3) go to some property networking events
4) reach out to someone who is doing what you want to do (in my case it was reaching out to and I’ve never looked back!)

Do this now and starting 2024 you will be ready to take some action!
