Meet Karina

Clinical Hypnotherapist & Breathwork Instructor

Karina JB Therapy

Karina offers solution focused hypnotherapy & breathwork

Breathwork is consciously using the breath to enhance physical, mental & emotional wellbeing. By using different styles & techniques we can achieve different outcomes such as clearing our minds, feeling calm & relaxed, feeling invigorated & clarity of thought.

It can be one to one or in a small group of up to 8 people.

I help you check that you are breathing effectively and then guide you through a lovely breathwork session on thick yoga mats with a cosy blanket. We will go through 3 to 4 techniques during a class as I guide you allowing you to breathe & count in your own time.

During the breathwork you may wish to set some intentions privately or remind yourself of some positive affirmations.

The group sessions do not require you to share any personal information during the session. You will be asked to let me know if you are pregnant, have epilepsy or uncontrolled breathing problems so I can be discreet.

Strength Training for Runners

Separating the fact from the fiction

"Higher training loads causes higher
injury rates"

Studies show that higher chronic workloads may actually reduce the risk of injury.

Reductions in workloads or training may not always be the best way to protect against an injury.

Across a wide range of sports, well-developed physical qualities are associated with reduced injury risk.

Overuse injuries are considered to be not caused by training itself, but rather by incorrect training programmes.

Under-training may increase injury risk.

Excessive and rapid increases in training loads are likely to be responsible for a large proportion of injuries.

So…

- Train Smarter AND Harder -

Hard, but appropriate training, can develop the right physical qualities in your body to protect it against injury.

Monitoring your training load – including running, strength training and work or personal life – is the best practice approach to reducing your injury risk

Strength Training for Runners

Separating the fact from the fiction

"There is no time in my running week to
add a strength training session"

Periodisation should be considered.

Periodisation involves progressively and gradually increasing the load on your body in a strength session. As you are building strength over a period of weeks your running intensity should be less.

As you prepare for a race the strength component should be reduced (but
maintained) and the running/ endurance load increased.

Pre-season blocks should focus on strength training for 3-4 sessions a week with fewer runs and less mileage.

In the build-up to a race or in-season strength training, it can be reduced to 1-2 sessions a week with increased running volume and focus on endurance.

Performance benefits from strength training are greater the longer the programme is done (for example, at least 6-20 weeks).
(The benefits of strength training are gradually lost when training is ceased)

It is recommended that dropping one run a week in order to include a strength session, is more beneficial on running performance and injury prevention.

Strength Training for Runners

Separating the fact from the fiction

FACT
Strength training has been proven
to improve running performance, speed, and running economy. It has also been proven to reduce injury risk.

FACT
Strength training
will not cause sudden, massive increases in muscle "bulk". Strength training can help to protect your joints by making the supporting muscles stronger and more able to withstand impact while running.

FACT
Greater performance benefits have been shown in studies to come from runners using heavier weights/ loads and low repetitions as well as explosive exercises.
