Bit of fascinating data released last week by SparkToro about who sends traffic on the web. No surprises, Google still leads the pack. But don't dash out and scrap all your social media y'all. It still plays a part in the customer journey.
So plenty of sites are getting hammered by the helpful content update being rolled out by Google right now. Some are disappearing completely (due to manual actions). I am pretty smug that all my sites (my businesses and client sites) seem to be weathering the storm. So far so good π€ probably jinxed it now! What about yours?
This started as a post and then turned into a long rant, which I have now published as a blog π In it you will find some top tips about how to make more sales on Instagram if you are a slow fashion brand. Go check it out. The most important point: getting likes, comments and shares on Instagram does not always equate to sales. Let that sink in for a minute.

Do you ever feel like no-one really cares about your eco credentials?
I was chatting with an eco-friendly e-commerce website owner last week about how shoppers are either invested in buying from ethical brands or just interested in pretty shiny new things.
Do you agree?
It is pretty disheartening when your Facebook Ad gets rejected numerous times. But consider the fact that Meta has a tough job policing the ads that 3 million businesses push out every day.
Ads can be rejected because:
β they are discriminatory
β they are political or inflammatory
β they make misleading claims
β they are suggestive or are adult content
I know this might not be your intention and you might just want to show off the transformation you have achieved for your client or patient. But it is worth reviewing your creative and copy to see if it could be adjusted.
Then pick yourself up and try again πΆ
Last month I reduced a new client's ad costs by 60% per click. That's going to improve his bottom line and make his ads more profitable.
The solution was very simple - I created a funnel for his ads - and used different performance goals for different stages of the buying journey.

There are plenty of reasons why an Instagram might not be working!
You might not be racking up enough impressions to satisfy the algorithm - adusting audience or budget will solve this one
It might have nothing to do with your ads - people may be clicking but not waiting for your website - in which case check your website
Your ads might be old and tired - in which case it is time to change the creative and copy up for something new

The truth is that the way to make more sales from Facebook ads is to ensure that the right funnel is set up, particularly when the product is a high-ticket item. It is not a case of slapping up an ad with mediocre content and the sales will roll on in. Like magic. And yet I see businesses do this every day.

Here's three things to review on your Facebook ads account if it isn't working well:
Quality of the ads - Meta has a super useful guide on what to do if any of the three quality ratings is 'below average'
Budgets - Not only how much you are spending but how much is allocated to where in your campaigns
Audiences - check audience sizes, tracking pixels, targeting and retargeting methods

The battle of the giants (X and Meta) took another turn last week with the introduction of free edits on Threads within the first 5 minutes of posting. A chance to correct that typo. Edits are only available on X (formerly known as Twitter) if you are a paying account. It is fun to watch this play out. Are you on Threads? I quite like it.
