Once Upon a Time in Animation - Workshop and Talks Programme The National Centre for Computer Animation invites you to a range of talks and workshops, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The Once Upon a Time in Animation exhibition will showcase a selection of concept art, storyboards, stills, games and finished films in an interactive exhibition in the Poole Museum’s Galleries 1 and 2. The exhibition features household names including Miffy, Beatrix Potter and Aardman.

Tomorrow at the Once Upon A Time In Animation exhibition the 3D Animation and Contemporary Media Arts talk will discuss a range of different strategies in the media arts, including pioneering crowd simulations by Stephen Bell, motion-capture and VR in Susan Sloan’s practice, and Dr. Paula Callus’ work on space, place and memory with the ReSpace project. This talk looks back into the origins of the NCCA and forward into the presence and future of artistic practice at the NCCA.

The Once Upon A Time In Animation exhibition has a thrilling programme of talks and workshops and this week the 3D Animation and Contemporary Media Arts talk and the World of Holograms workshop will be taking place. On Thursday 17th June at 7pm, learn all about the diverse projects of contemporary media arts practice, from visual sound artwork by the Analema Group, to interactive brainwave artwork! At 10:30am and 2:30pm on Saturday 19th June, learn all about the wonders of holograms, from their origins, to their present and their future!

A Brief History of the National Centre for Computer Animation, a talk hosted by Dr. Eike Falk Anderson and Prof. Peter Comninos will be taking place this Thursday 10th June - your chance to find out more about the NCCA who are celebrating 30 years this year! Interested in the creation of video games, our 3D Games Workshops will be using the Unreal Engine to get a hands on experience into how the production of games takes place. This week at the Once Upon A Time In Animation exhibition we are welcoming Dr. Valery Adzhiev who will be hosting the Digital Sculpting and Painting talk on Thursday 3rd June at 18:30. This talk will look at the popular Computer Art genres, namely digital sculpting and painting allowing for both re-imagining of old art works and creating original pieces. Programming for Kids - Blockly Workshop, a chance to introduce children to concepts of programming, using a visual tool called Blockly, will be taking place on Saturday 5th June at 11am and 2pm.

The Once Upon A Time In Animation exhibition will be hosting a range of talks over the next six weeks. This Thursday 27 May, the NCCA and the Creative Industries talk will take place at 18:30 pm.
For over 30 years the National Centre for Computer Animation at Bournemouth University has been at the forefront of teaching and research in the discipline of Computer Animation. The department comprises about 30 academics and researchers and approximately 500 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our philosophy has remained "Science in the Service of the Arts", recognising that Computer Animation is inherently multidisciplinary.

Learn how to create your own digital paintings at a Once Upon a Time in Animation's exhibition workshop using a web-based painting software, Shemza.digital, created by Aphra Shemza & Stuart Batchelor. In the workshop Stuart Batchelor will guide you through the motivation and history of Anwar Jalal Shemza's work as well as conducting hands-on creative exercises within the software to create your own artworks.
