3rd High Wycombe - Downley - Scout Group

Our 2 scout Troops are currently on Summer Camp on the South Coast.
With activities during the week including paddle boarding, climbing, visiting an air museum and a trip to Brownsea Island.
Have a great time and thank you to all the leaders that make these amazing trips happen for our young people ❤️⚜️

Our 2 cub packs are on District Cub Camp this weekend at Phasels Wood Activity Centre. With an Olympic theme 🇦🇺 🦘

We hope the weather stays kind and they all have a great time.

HW District Scouts

We would like to say how proud we are of one of our Young Leaders Cassie who is off on an adventure of a lifetime on Monday.

Cassie was chosen as one of 5 explorers from HWDESU to attend Roverway 2024.
She will join Scouts from all over the world in Norway from 22nd July to 5th August.

Cassie had to raise significant funds to attend and we were able to help her by donating the funds from the Christmas Disco to help her achieve her total.

Looking to raise additional funds to enhance the Scouting we provide in Downley. We have over 120 young people attending our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts on a weekly basis.

On Saturday 8th June Vancouver and Klondike beaver colonies will join over 700 other beavers from Bucks at the County Beaveree. We hope they have an amazing time.

Last night the Vancouver Beaver Colony went on a walk in search of Bluebells
Luckily they were still out.
Many thanks to our parent helpers - without them we cannot go on these adventures.

Happy St George's Day!

Traditionally this is a time for Scouts to come together, renew their Promise, and celebrate.

But why do we celebrate St George's Day?
We celebrate St George's Day because Baden-Powell chose St George to be the patron saint of Scouts. He wanted St George's Day to be a time to reflect on the Scout Promise and what it means to be a Scout.

The Vancouver Beaver Colony had a very successful sleepover at Braid Wood campsite last night. They spent Friday evening and all day Saturday making fires, toasting marshmallows, playing games, washing up, doing crafts and generally having fun. ❤️⚜️

It was a tough 10km today. But the cub teams finished in 3.5 and 4 hours. Still waiting for the scouts and young leaders to finish. 40km due in possible between 10pm and 12am. 80km - who know !!!!

Good luck to all our cubs, scouts, young leaders and leaders competing in the Endurance 80 events today.

Cubs will walk 10km
Scouts will walk 40km
And the YL’s will walk 80km

Just listened to Bear Grylls on the the radio talking about the launch of his new book. It sounds awesome.
He also referred to rain as Scouting Sunshine which made me chuckle 🤭

Apollo cubs went out litter picking tonight - and came back with loads of rubbish from around the village
This was done to complete part of the Environmental badge.

On Saturday 10 scouts took part in The Grymsdike Hikes 2023 by taking on a 16km hike.
The 2 teams finished in 5 and 6 hours.
Well done all 🥾 ⚜️

Both Cub packs went on a hike, watched a movie and a sleepover at the Centre last night.
They enjoyed hot dogs, hot chocolate and S’mores upon their return.
A great time (and little sleep) was had by all 🤣😂

We are actively looking for new volunteers to join our ever growing group.

Current roles are Secretary, Treasurer and Section Assistants (particularly Cubs)

One of our local churches are holding their Winter Fair this Saturday. Do pop along if you can - and enjoy a cheeky bacon buttie !!!

This weekend the 2 Beaver groups attended a sleepover at Gullivers Land organised by Buckinghamshire Scouts
They had fun on the rides, did a dinosaur trail, crafty things, disco and so much more (except sleep!!)

Both cub packs had an amazing visit to Wycombe Air Park/Booker - EGTB today to complete the Air Activities badge.
Thank you to leaders for giving up a Saturday morning and the Air Park for an excellent time.
