A standard garage door will generally only have a traditional simple cylinder lock located in its handle operating a pair of shoot bolts. These take very little effort and virtually no time to force open. Thieves know this too so they are not an effective visual deterrent either. There is a very simple ways to improve the security of your garage doors.


Secure garage door locks

The main components are a pair of locks with each opened by the same key. These locks are compatible with most types of garage door, that includes the up and over design, the hinged and folding garage doors up to 38mm thick, along with various roller shutter doors.

The locks are secured to each side of the door (using the bolts included) where they can be mounted horizontally with bolts extending into a wall or vertically where bolts can be shot into the ground.

The keys are used to extend the bolts from an unlocked position of 20mm from the lock case, to 35mm with the first turn of the key increasing to 55mm with the second turn and finally 70mm with a complete rotation of the key. The benefit of this is that it offers great levels of security coupled with flexible fitting. As these garage bolts can be operated from either side of the door, security can be further increased by not drilling an outside key hole if there is access to the garage via another door.

Q Are more keys able to be ordered?
A Yes. Each unique lock is supplied with a security number, these enable further cuts.

Q How long does fitting take?
A after looking at the profile, fitting is usually around half an hour per door lock

Q How do I know if I already have high security Anti Snap Locks?
A When the door is locked if the key slot is vertical it is not an Anti Snap. Anti Snap locks once locked are horizontal. The keys are not conventional in appearance, they usually are flat with ‘recessed dimples’ rather than a serrated edge.
