A big thank you to everyone who visited & bought at this week. And thanks to hens teeth for putting on such a great event, each year is great with consistently high quality work. It was a real pleasure to take part!
Started the day foraging for oak galls, it was a challenge hunting for them amongst all the oak leaves. My fabric is now scouring & the oak galls are simmering away… the natural dyeing experiments begin!
Such a great find yesterday - I’ve never seen one of these before, so it had to come home with me. Love that Teazle is spelt as I spell it. Love the label design too! It was used to raise the nap on knitted garments and I’m a bit disappointed that the brush itself is metal rather than made from Teazle heads. There was once a roaring trade in Teazles locally ( West Yorkshire) with Teazle auctions held in local pubs. Millions of the seed heads were used in frames for many years in the weaving industry, in fact in 1840 one mill recorded purchasing 21 million heads. I’ve recently started studying and chose teazles as one of the objects to study for my sketchbook too, so scroll for some early efforts including mono prints of crossections of the teazle. Bonus photo of the Teazle house sign !
Looking forward to my last fair before Christmas.. I’ll be at Art at the Altar, Pen*stone between the 22nd & 26th of November. Always a lovely event with twinkly lights and lots of fab makers, perfect for a little Christmas shopping!

Just 2 weeks ago until this great event in Slaithwaite, near Huddersfield. It’s been a few years since the mill opened its doors for a made beautifully here event, it’s great to visit an old mill, the range of makers is top notch and the canal side location is fab, not to mention all the great cafes and bars in Slaithwaite. It’s also part of the celebrating textiles now and the heritage of this area.Definitely not one to miss!

Learnt lots about Kantha& quilts.Think my photos show that I’m strongly attracted to mid century textile design. So looking forward to starting the FdA Textiles Practice in September . I might even be inspired to put pencil to paper & do some mark making!!

Also to let you know I am still posting orders until the end of this week, but can’t guarantee delivery I’m time for Christmas. If you’re local to Huddersfield you’re welcome to collect from me. Pop in & enjoy a seasonal browse of local makers work…
It’s been a really busy few weeks and I want to say a big thank you to lots of people…
To the customers who have bought from me & other independent makers, it’s a joy to interact with you & hopefully make your shopping a personal and enjoyable experience. To the event organisers and .teeth and . I appreciate how much hard work it is to put a good event together. You have all successfully created communities which are warm & welcoming, both for makers and customers. It’s no mean feat in these challenging times. This is starting to sound like an awards acceptance speech but I’ve been overwhelmed with support this year, so I’ll carry on ! Also thanks to fellow makers - too numerous to mention (and if I miss anyone I’ll feel bad!) and to my family. To my family for their support, to my mum for encouraging my creativity, to Mike for building my stands (& storing my mannequins) to my sister for driving a 2 hour round trip to dismantle my stand. To my son for unloading my car at the end of events and last but not least to for keeping everything running, for putting up with threads everywhere and for listening to me prattle on about fabric and what should I make next! I’m a bit exhausted today but very grateful to still be running my little business 12 years after it started. Thank you x
