A helpful reminder for any parent. If your child can't tell you in words, they will often use their behaviour to let you know how they’re feeling. This might come out as anger.
Underneath these behaviours, a young person who seems very angry may also be feeling things like fear, stress, sadness, hurt or worry – or might be struggling to cope with a difficult experience at school, at home or in another part of their life that they feel unable to talk about.
It can be helpful to remember that a person who’s feeling angry a lot of the time probably isn’t feeling very happy – and while it might not be obvious, what they often need is support. Supporting children and young people to put their feelings into words can help them to feel less overwhelming, making it less likely that they will need to act out.

Did YOU know your local GP has a children and young people's Social Prescribing Service?
The GR8 Minds team provides one-to-one support to young people aged 5-25. The team can support you on a range of issues - including mental health, bereavement and family changes, or disabilities.
A young person can get in contact with GR8 Minds by visiting www.gr8minds.co.uk and completing the self-referral form, or by asking a teacher or parent/carer to contact us. They will arrange an appointment to speak to them, which can be at school or their GP practice.
The GR8 Minds service is available in all WACA member practices.
Although from Mind was on February 1st, that doesn't mean talking about your mental health is any less important.
It's important to have someone to talk to, and our children and young people's Social Prescribers are here for you if you need a listening ear and guidance to the right support!
Here are some lovely words left by the young people and adults our social prescribers have worked with over the years!
"Thank you so much for supporting me through the hard times. I really appreciate it. You are amazing!" - A young person talking about Shameem Koser, Children & Young People's Social Prescriber for Airedale
"Getting Matt and David into school was the best thing they could've done. It's created an atmosphere where it's okay to talk"
- Former deputy head boy of a local school talking about the support from Young People's Social Prescribers in Craven.
"You worked with my son in his school. I just wanted to say it really does help, thank you" - A local teacher and parent, talking about the GR8 Minds Service in schools.
"My son saw Hilary at The Place and it really helped him. Now I'd like my daughter to see her too as it was so good for him"
- A local parent talking about the support received from GR8 Minds Counsellor Hilary Bailey
