Every time we just seem to grow with confidence and for me dust of the rust 🤣
This boy though 😍 he is just the best!! How lucky am I to be trusted with him 🥰

Lovely little 10 year old Welsh section A gelding looking for a 🏡. Selling from the field currently out of work. Up to date with teeth, physio, vaccinations and feet.
Lives alone or in company in or out not bothered. Lives on a farm currently and is not phased by the farm traffic, cows or sheep.

Little girl is still stuck on her little mini and not prepared to give him up anytime soon. Completely wasted at the moment.

We have started our 2024 hay today and the smell is just glorious ....poor horses have been smelling it all day.
Mr G started on the baler and I was raking up with the other tractor but on the last field I even had a turn on the baler 😃 team work makes dream work.
The kids even topped us up with refreshments 💞

We have all been very busy this last month on the farm with calving and lambing.

On the yard everyone has been enjoying there horses and ponies. We have had Avril Johnston and Elaine Taylor in teaching both jumping and flatwork.

We have also been busy renovating some of the stables along with several more cameras getting installed so security purposes but also equally as handy for late night checks.

Let's hope the rain stops and the sun shines once more so we can replace the equicoats for base layers 😆

16hh plus mare or gelding between 7 and 14 years old, safe and sensible but fun for hacking, lessons and some fun jumping. Must be able to hack alone and in company and be good in traffic.

The Highway Code has changed from today (29.01.22)

When driving, you should now pass horse riders and horse-drawn vehicles at speeds under 10 mph and allow at least 2 metres of space. Check the changes, let’s keep each other safe.

Has agreed to come and teach once a month on the yard. At the moment it's looking to be a Wednesday afternoon/early evening.
Flatwork/poles/jumping.
Private or groups of up to 3 in the outdoor with scope for jumping on the grass this summer.

❌Elaine Taylor❌
Elaine Taylor is going to continue to come and teach every few weeks. Everyone is very much enjoying their lessons with Elaine who has a wealth of knowledge.

Very happy to have other suggestion of instructors/mini clinics. We have lots of wonderful trainers right on our doorsteps.

🔶🔹 𝙍𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙊𝙣 𝙃𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 🔹🔶

With one of the driest summers in Aberdeenshire for a long time, we have been seeing a lot of lameness cases linked to exercising and competing on hard ground.
These injuries have ranged from foot pain to bone bruises, as well as several tendonitis cases.

Repeatedly working horses on solid ground can cause concussion and lameness issues. Hard ground can increase pain in horses already suffering from joint problems, and the hoof, soft tissues and bone columns can be damaged as a result of concussive forces repeatedly travelling through the limbs.

So we hope to minimise the risk by giving you some handy tips when exercising on hard surfaces:-

🔹 Try to avoid galloping or jumping on hard ground. Could you head to the beach or a large arena instead?
🔸 Short bursts of trotting on flat, even and firm surfaces like roads can be beneficial to increase bone strength , but should be limited to a maximum of 5 minutes trotting per day.
🔹Avoid fields with uneven or rutted surfaces. These can increase the chance of injury significantly when solid.
🔸Compare the surface you’re training on to a tarmac road. You wouldn’t canter your horse on a road, so is the ground you are on similar?
🔹Cooling the legs after exercise is recommended. Cold hosing or icing each leg for up to 10 mins is most efficient.
🔸 Always warm up slowly on hard ground and have a sufficient cool down.
🔹 Steady hill work at walk and trot can be used to replace fast work for cardiovascular fitness.
🔸 Check daily for any signs of heat, swelling or lameness in all limbs and know what is normal for your horse.
🔹Keep your horse up to date with farrier care to ensure feet are well trimmed/shod to optimise foot balance.
🔸During these dry periods, remember to moisturise your horses hooves to prevent them becoming brittle or cracking.
🔹Consider starting your horse on a hoof supplement to encourage healthy horn growth, and a joint supplement to support and promote healthy cartilage and joint fluid.
