When teddy takes the alphabet apart and does not know how to put it back in the right order.

Mastering the alphabets, both capital and lower case, is part of the Davis Dyslexia Programme.

Making the letters, knowing their names and shapes while being focused is a foundation for literacy.

‘These are my letters because I made them!’ Lovely to see confidence grow day by day.

What this weeks success sounded like: “Why are you telling me how to spell xyz? I know that!” says my 12 year old student. “I am sorry”, I respond. This is the first sign of knowing and being aware of knowing how to spell a word. A step away from the insecurity that is so big. I am so glad you know that you know.

There are so many faces to progress and success. 🙂

A very 80th Happy Biirthday to Ron Davis. The man who changed the life of so many!

His books The Gift of Dyslexia, The Gift of Learning and Autism and the Seeds of Change impacted around the globe.

What fun! In a world where screen life is so dominant, working on motor skills and collaboration is so important.

Yes, it looks great fun as well!

Celebrating a mile stone: the data base shows that I have now completed coaching sessions with 160 amazing neurodiverse clients in the work place.

A privilege, a journey, a learning curve!

My adult work has impacted my work with young people.

It made me more committed and skilled to prepare them for the future.

It also allows me to support parents to do so.

I will speak about that more soon.

Keep an eye out!

Listening Books is fab!

I have been member now for seven years.

I keep recommending it!

Yes, I love reading but I mainly read subject matter. I listen to fiction - that’s my preferred way of enjoying it.

Check out Listening books for yourself, your child, your family.

Children tend to choose books they already know, both to read by themselves and to have read to them. Audiobooks, whose narration is identical on every play, can make it easier for children to familiarise themselves with stories - and they give grown-ups a break from reading the same books over and over again!

Stay and listen - a way to give your child emotional support. This makes so much sense to me.

🧠 Imagine you find yourself upset for some reason.

🤨 Maybe you know why or you don't.

😟 You just know you're feeling something.

💧 The tears start pouring out.

💕 The person you trust most comes over to you.

👏 They will probably give you some advice or maybe they will remind you that there's a lot going on in the world or maybe they will do something silly to make you laugh... but wait?! They don't do that!

➡ Instead, they come closer to you very slowly.

👁 They're looking into your eyes and you can see the warmth in theirs.

😍 Their expression is soft and they nod gently, silently conveying to you that you are doing great without their help or advice.

🤲 They sit in front of you, making the occasional encouraging noise such as "mmm" and you keep pouring it all our feeling safe and cared for and believing in your own ability to recover from hurt or fear.

😅 When you're done you take a deep breath and notice how much lighter you feel. You give that person a big hug knowing how effective their presence was in helping you get all that gunk out.

💓 What that person did is what we call Staylistening as referenced in this quote from Hand in Hand Parenting Instructor, Stacy Wilson of GrowinGoodness

Fantastic examples of a Davis Maths Programme. Hands on understanding of numbers and arithmetic.

While students can stop doing maths in Upper School, it remains a skill for life.

Not learning the basics has life long consequences on confidence and career.

I just love this picture!

Supporting dyslexic children to become readers and love books is what I do.

I see those beaming smiles and holding a book like a treasure.

Does your child love reading?

Or?

…Does your child connect books with pain, fear and failing?

Dyslexia affects emotional well being, anxiety and confidence.

I have worked with dyslexic learners between age seven and retirement age.

Knowing the bigger picture, my advise to parents is to find support for their children early.
