Aurorabearealis
Aurorabearealis the Studio Gallery of Susan Phillips, Artist and Creator of beautiful things. I find it hard not to see images in such surfaces.
Texture plays a large part in the inspiration behind my work, I love old peeling paint, decaying wood and rusty metal as well as patterns in nature like tidemarks on a sandy beach or the flotsam and jetsam left behind by the tide. Oh no π€¦ββοΈ I forgot to pick up the laptop case this morning...
Oh well, I'll just have to warp the loom and get lashing on instead then.
I've been updating, refreshing and renovating the online shop recently. I've dusted off the cobwebs, swept out the detritus and it's looking all shiny and new.
More still to be added as and when I find time to upload more photos.

Stuck in a loop! π΅βπ«
Not me but the accounting website I use so with an enforced hiatus in the end of year accounts (not my favourite activity in the first place) I may as well carry on updating my online shop that's currently under reconstruction.
Photos are all done now just the blurb to sort out before I start uploading and publishing the posts. It will be nice to see it all refreshed and easier to manage and keep up to date but I'm still itching to be creative instead.π§΅π§Ά

Finally the mystery felting...
Felted Lamps.π‘
Did you guess correctly?
Fuzzy loveliness, they look just as nice lit or unlit and are perfect for a cosy corner or bedside.
Felted over a glass lamp base they are mains powered and use a 40w candle bulb.
A wee sneaky peek at something new...
..but they're not finished yet, you'll have to wait until next week.πΆβπ«οΈ
Since it's here's a few favourites on my
studio bookshelf.
1. The treasures of the impressionists - Jon Kear.
I can while away several hours lost in this one with it's gorgeous illustrations, double pages and pull out treasures of sketches, tickets, letters etc.
2. Ann Blockley's watercolour books are an inspiration, I love her paintings.
3. Brad travel guides have used several of my illustrations in the past this front cover cartoon was done the old fashioned way in paint and paper, would be so much easier now with the advent of digital painting. I still have the original watercolour Toady and Anne Boleyn illustrations in a portfolio somewhere.
I could have just binned the mirror board scraps...
but then I wouldn't have a nice wee pot of card sequins to use.
Nobody sneeze!
Spent the week getting fluff up my nose laying out cobwebs ready for felting, too late to start today so ready to get soapy next week.
The canal keepers cottage is looking a bit lonely in the mist this morning.πΆβπ«οΈ
New things are afoot now the valentine cards have been put away.π₯°
The felting stuff is still out to try something new I've been mulling over for a while... watch this space.π
A lovely welcome back to the Studio this morning with sideways sleet and 60mph winds.π³
Not expecting many customers today... at least I'll get the Christmas decorations down.
Wishing all our customers and followers a very
πMerry Christmasπ
and a
πHappy New Yearπ
We will be closed until February... hope to see you then.
Only 2 more days at Aurorabearealis to get that unique something for that special someone.π
We're open until 6pm on Saturday then closed until February...
well almost February but I thought putting the 31st Jan on this might just confuse you between that and hogmanay.π
A lovely customer brought us a wee Christmas treat to go with our coffee this morning... aren't they great?
The view out of the studio window is lovely, stunning even in many ways but...
Between 2pm and 3pm in the winter I can't see a fecking thing from or on my workspace.π
Oh well! Holiday's over and it's back to the drawing board or at least the sketchpad, there are wee felt hangings needing made so the fabulously funky yarn I bought at Under the Rowan will have to wait a bit before I decide what to make with it.
Just a wee heads up that we're closed for our summer hols...π
Back open on the 22nd.
Luscious freshwater pearls this time, with a sprinkling of other gorgeous beads, I loved making these, pearls are probably my favourite and what I made myself for our wedding.
Finished with a sterling silver clasp & extender chain (18" to 20") and come boxed with matching earrings...Β£50
Been working on a little elegant sparkle recently with matching necklace and earrings boxed sets.
Semi-precious gems nestling with crystals, glass pearls, mother of pearl and a host of other gorgeous glass beads all 20"/50cm with sterling silver toggle clasp and findings.
Closed this Friday and Saturday... my annual sabbatical to the Cromarty Harp Weekend. πΆπ΅πΆ
Nothing like a bit of hemstitching to test the new specs.π€
New glasses day today.π₯Έ
Going to be much easier to see this bonkers plaid pattern, no more warp floats...yay!
When was the last time you had your eyes tested?
Don't leave it too long.
Yesterday probably wasn't the best day to launch into an afternoon of calculations... way too hot for maths.π₯΅
This one's going to be quite snazzy though.
I love doing the twiddly bits... even if there are 408 of them.π
Lovely sparkly day here...
Nice to finally be back at the loom again after such a long time... it's been tucked away since last Christmas.
More than 1 kilometer done 1/2 a kilometer to go

A little more...
...about my work.
Texture plays a large part in the inspiration behind my work, I love old peeling paint, decaying wood and rusty metal as well as patterns in nature like tidemarks on a sandy beach or the flotsam and jetsam left behind by the tide.
I find it hard not to see images in such surfaces. Living and working in the Highlands of Scotland means nature and the sea has a huge influence on my Art.
Much of my work is mixed media and I particularly enjoy using collage to add texture to pieces. I often experiment with media not immediately associated with fine Art like embossing enamels, beading, textiles and fibres, for me the lines between Art and Craft can be very blurred.
