Boganbuie Croft & Stables
Beginner lessons, pony treks, therapy sessions, birthday party’s & lots more!
All of our horses and ponies are bought straight from our own “eye” & gut feeling or that initial bond with the horse regardless of their record or results “on paper”, we do however need to bring back the good old “gentleman’s handshake” & honesty when buying & selling any horses…especially when children’s safety is at risk….
Delighted to see one of our amazing little pocket rocket ponies still flying around the circuit, teaching & testing the future top jockeys! So many memories with this little character!!
And not forgetting this little pocket rocket Buzzlightyear! He had bags of talent & bags of sass to go with it but wow did he teach Emilia lots!! Lots of red ribbons for this boy, when he was good he was AMAZING!!

Due to the nights drawing in, we thought it key to share some reminders on riding out in hi-vis! 👷 🐴
It should always be recommended that hi-vis clothing and lights are worn whether riding on or off the road and regardless of the time of day, season, or weather conditions! 🌤 🌧🌩
The BHS recommend that:
➡️ “Riders should choose to wear lights wherever possible."
➡️ "Riders should wear high visibility and reflective clothing in a colour appropriate for their environment."
Which allows pedestrians, dog walkers, cyclists, and vehicles to see you from a greater distance and in the unfortunate event of a fall, you may be seen much sooner and hopefully prevent any injuries from becoming more serious.”
To find out more about riding out & hacking, visit the BHS website here: https://www.bhs.org.uk/go-riding/riding-out-hacking/what-to-wear/hi-vis/
Be visible. Be seen. Be safe.

The face behind the stables…a little “get to know us” post…
Emilia is the main face behind the horses at Boganbuie croft & stables.
Emilia started riding horses at just 5 years old & her parents quickly realised she had a natural riding ability & a natural love for horses. Her younger years riding was greatly taught by local instructors Kirsteen, Lucy & Eilidh from Chapleton riding centre, Ashleigh Reilly freelance coach & Maggie Wyllie of Viewmount equestrian she soon got the jumping bug & this was propelled by Hilary Stuart with the support of Christine Anderson at Broomhill riding centre, where Emilia quickly became part of the pony club & also the British Showjumping Highlands & Islands academy, these gave her great knowledge & training with all things equestrian & gave her the grounds to take her show jumping to the next level. Emilia has had the pleasure of being coached by some of the best coaches on the Scottish show jumping circuit such as Ernest Dillion, David Harland & Andrew Hamilton & further afield has had great tuition and training sessions with Faye & Beth Adams of Halesowen riding centre, who themselves were top junior European show jumpers. Emilia quickly became an affiliated member of British Showjumping which enabled her to compete nationally all over the UK. Emilia gained mountains of experience travelling to some of the biggest & best shows & venues in the uk (her favourites being Bolesworth & Aintree!) & competing against some the best junior riders on the circuit. Emilia & her various ponies Misty, Bella,DC,Buzz & Chaulky won many titles & prizes, had the pleasure of representing Scotland & qualified for many Championships & finals! Unfortunately following British Show jumping rules at the age of 16 Emilias time competing Ponies had come to an end & it was now time to move on to the big boys! Emilia also gained her level 1 jockey certificate at Newmarket with the British Racing School!
Emilia has now decided to take this time to slowly & carefully train our new bunch of young horses & focus on working towards gaining various qualifications, as well as teaching little ones everything she has learned & was taught herself over the years! Emilia will be forever greatful to those that have supported her through her journey on ponies & horses & hopes she can encourage others to follow their dreams. ❤️🐎❤️
A bit of a different post today on our Boganbuie page… Chelsie, below, is the elder sister of Emilia who does the majority of our pony treks & lessons…she was once a young horsey girl too, just never got the show jumping bug like her sister! Any likes & shares on the miss Scotland page to Support Chelsie on her Journey would be greatly appreciated xx
“Manners”
You can tell much about the level of someone’s basic horsemanship by the way their horses lead.
A horse should stay next to you, not pull you or be dragged by you. A horse should respect your space, and not crowd against you, maybe step on your feet.
This is known as “having manners.” A horse that won’t lead is like a dog that jumps up onto furniture, it hasn’t been taught right from wrong.
I recently read something by a well respected western clinician. He said, “People want their horses to love them so much that they think they are being mean if they create boundaries.”
Horses weigh half a ton. They can easily hurt a puny human if they lack manners and boundaries, Heck, they can easily hurt us if they DO have manners.
People who treat horses as though they were some sort of fuzzy pets can create animals that can do a lot of damage. Creating boundaries doesn’t mean whipping and beating, but it does require that when you say “no” you mean “no.”
Standing at the mounting block, standing for the farrier, picking up its hooves, letting itself get bridled, so many basics that make the difference between a mannerly horse and one that shoves you around.
As the clinician said, “letting a horse walk all over you won’t make him love you more.”
