ππ€± **World Breastfeeding Week 2024: Closing the Gap β Breastfeeding Support for All** π€±π
As a paediatric nurse, a breastfeeding mama, and a feeding support practitioner, Iβve seen firsthand the incredible benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby. Itβs a beautiful journey that nurtures not just bodies, but bonds that last a lifetime.
Breastfeeding isnβt always easyβit takes time, patience, and support. Thatβs why this yearβs theme, *Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All*, is so important. It highlights the need to ensure that every parent, regardless of their circumstances, has access to the resources, guidance, and encouragement they need to successfully breastfeed.
Whether itβs your first feed or youβre navigating the challenges of breastfeeding under unique circumstances, know that youβre not alone. There is a community of professionals and fellow parents here to help you every step of the way. Together, we can create a world where breastfeeding support is available to everyone, breaking down barriers and making breastfeeding a positive experience for all.
To all the mamas out there: trust your instincts, seek support when you need it, and celebrate every milestone, big or small. Youβre doing an incredible job, and your efforts are laying the foundation for a healthier, happier future.
Happy World Breastfeeding Week! Letβs continue to advocate, support, and celebrate the beauty of breastfeeding. π

π§ World Continence Week 2024 π§
June 17th - 24th
Let's shed some light on the importance of continence care for both adults and children in the UK. ππ§
Did you know?
1οΈβ£ Adults: Around 14 million adults in the UK suffer from bladder control issues. This means 1 in 5 adults are affected, impacting their daily lives and well-being.
2οΈβ£ Children: 1 in 12 children aged 5-19 experience bladder and bowel control problems. These issues can lead to social and emotional challenges, affecting their self-esteem and school performance.
π‘ Key Facts:
- Silent Struggle: Many people don't seek help due to embarrassment. Let's break the stigma and encourage open conversations.
- Support is Available: There are numerous resources and treatments available to help manage continence issues. Talk to your GP or a continence specialist.
- Healthy Habits: Simple lifestyle changes, such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, and proper hydration, can significantly improve bladder and bowel health.
π» Let's make a difference: By raising awareness, we can ensure better support and understanding for those affected by continence issues. Share this post and help spread the word! π
π¨βπ§βπ¦ Happy Father's Day! π¨βπ§βπ¦
π§»π Happy World Bedwetting Week! ππ§»
Nocturnal enuresis, commonly known as bedwetting, is when a child unintentionally urinates during sleep. It's more common than you might think and can be a challenging experience for both children and parents.
π€What is Nocturnal Enuresis?
It's a condition where a child over the age of 5 wets the bed at least twice a week. It can happen due to various reasons such as a small bladder, deep sleep, genetics, or delayed bladder maturation.
1 in 15 seven year olds and 1 in 75 teenagers are affected
π¨βπ©βπ¦What Can Parents Do to Help?
Stay Supportive: Reassure your child that bedwetting is not their fault and is just a part of growing up.
Constipation: Check that your child passes soft formed stools regularly, ideally every day to every other day.
Routine: Encourage regular bathroom visits throughout the day and before bedtime.
Limit Fluids: Reduce liquid intake in the evening, but ensure they stay hydrated during the day.
πWhere Can You Go for Support?
Healthcare Professionals: Consult with your GP or paediatric nurse for guidance and support.
Support Groups: Join online communities or local support groups for shared experiences and advice.
Educational Resources: Explore resources like the ERIC (The Childrenβs Bowel & Bladder Charity) website for tips and information.
Remember, bedwetting is a common phase many children go through. With patience, understanding, and the right support, your child will overcome it. π

π· Don't forget, tonight the clocks spring forward 1 hour! β°
While we're all excited for more daylight, we know adjusting sleep schedules can be a challenge, especially for our little ones.
Here are some tips to help ease the transition:
πͺ» Gradual Adjustment: If you want to ease the transition, consider altering nap times by 15-30 minutes today leading up to the time change. This gradual approach can help your child's body clock adapt more smoothly.
πΊ Alternatively, you can choose to stick to your schedule and not make any changes.
πΉ Stick to Routine: Maintain your usual bedtime routine to signal to your child that it's time to wind down and prepare for sleep. Consistency is key!
π» Optimise Sleep Environment: Ensure your child's sleep environment is conducive to restful sleep. Keep the room cool, dark, and quiet, and consider using white noise to drown out any disturbances.
πΈ Be Patient: It may take a few days for your child to fully adjust to the new schedule, so be patient and understanding during this transition period.
Remember, every child is different, so find what works best for your family. Here's to smoother bedtime routines and more sunshine-filled days ahead!
