Making waves… well, a wave.
Here I am, creating waves…. Well a wave, hopefully for one of my entries into @sageandsalt.studio summer exhibition! I’m finishing the woven sea-foam detail into my latest #waveoverseashore #wallhanging which uses techniques based (sometimes loosely) on the tradition of #dorsetbuttonmaking I’ve left in the ‘live’ rustling sound of this upcycled shred of scarf being inserted into the weaving, whilst I’m listening to @bbcradio3 with the unexpected and mesmerising sound of @willharmonicas and @delia_percussion interpretation of Jupiter from Holst’s Planet Suite… dial it up on @bbcsounds as it’s well worth hearing properly… and don’t you think it suits the image I’m creating really well?!

Working on sunshine
I got some gorgeous merino/silk 4ply I got from @sheeponmars a few days ago, and I couldn’t resist working it up into some #dorsetbuttons Here’s me part the way through one of my favourite patterns, the offset #crosswheel which will enable some interesting embellishment when the #seashells get brought out the stash. That will probably become a scarf ring, with flowers and a 🐝…. I’m still trying…. Tonight I thought I’d try and time-lapse completing some Dorset Button heart earrings. I remembered to film in portrait not landscape, but the angles still aren’t quite right to work comfortably whilst filming from my goose-neck phone holder, in such a way as you can really see what I’m doing! Sorry folks… will try again. Like most of my prototype creations, I make it up as I go along with an idea of what I want the finished product to look like, but there can be a little fiddle and faddle along the way… so what you definitely don’t see here is all of the previous attempt to put them together, and the unpicking that followed! Anyway, in the end the ‘hearthside’ lace weight silk from @wildatlanticyarns in the hearts looks great with the beads, and on ‘yellow’ niobium findings from @ejrbeads, they look good. So here's Stage 2 of me making the honeycomb background for my latest earrings... Laying the spokes of a Dorset Button. However, because o wanted a particular effect, and to use the corners of the hexagonal ring, this is a slightly non-standard way of doing things; normally you don't see through the blanket stitch like this.
