Hedges are great resources for wildlife, but sometimes they need to be removed. This section of box hedge was carefully taken out to prevent the spread of disease to a nearby (and so far, healthy) hedge. As a bonus, there's now space to grow new plants!

June Plant of the month…..Magnolia Magnolias are beautiful, widely grown ornamental trees and shrubs, which flower spectacularly in spring or early summer. Decidious varieties display their tulip or star-shaped flowers on bare branches for maximum impact, while evergreen types have large blooms in late summer which stand out well amo...

Very satisfying spring garden tidy-up 😁
The sun is out and gardens are starting to wake up! The bright colours of dogwoods have been putting on a show all through the winter, but they're now being joined by cherry blossom, winter jasmine, winter honeysuckle, and viburnum. The bees are making the most of the mahonia and the primroses as the snowdrops are starting to be replaced by daffodils and hyacinths. Even the tree peony has some buds. What's flowering in your garden?
Pruning.....
This is the time to prune your roses, cut back clematis and reshape fruit bushes and trees, while they are dormant.
Once the leaves have fallen it’s easy to see a plant’s framework, and it’s a good time to carry out renovation pruning, to revive plants that can become large and unproductive, such as viburnum and mahonia.
The aim of winter pruning is to encourage vigour so that fruit trees are productive and shrubs don’t outgrow their space. Pruning in winter can also help control or prevent the spread of disease.
However, not all plants are suitable for winter pruning. Some plants should be pruned in pruned in spring, while others are best left until summer or autumn. Many garden plants benefit from pruning, but it's important to prune at the right time of year, in the right way.

I don't just clean driveways..... look at the difference power-washing made to this garage roof!
All jobs are considered, whether big or small. As you can see, working with Joe from Within the Woods to clear an overgrown area at a local primary school to develop their forest school provision was a fairly big job!
Power-washing. It can change the look of your property, turning dark, grimy stonework golden again, revealing long-forgotten features, removing weeds, moss and debris that make your paths and decking a slippery hazard in the colder months. I have experience of cleaning many different types of surfaces, from block paving to tarmac, and everything in-between!
If any part of your garden is making you feel overwhelmed, get in touch, I may be able to help!
I can offer regular visits to look after your lawns and hedges.
My clients wanted to improve the curb-appeal of their property. So I replaced the rear lawn/flowerbed with slate to create a lower-maintenance seating area, weeded all the other flowerbeds, cleaned and power-washed the stone work and pathways, gave the gate a coat of paint.....and it almost looks like a different garden!
Empowering clients to achieve what they want from their garden is very satisfying. I worked with a client to decide how to grow veg in their very steep hillside garden. We decided that raised planters was the best solution and worked out a planting scheme together. I was fortunate to be able to re-visit the garden a few weeks later and see how well everything was growing.
I don't just cut lawns, I can lay them too! Here are some photos of a garden where I worked with a local carpenter to dig out the plastic underlay which was killing the old lawn, build wooden raised beds, lay a new lawn, create a water feature and flower beds around the existing patio area.
Whether you need someone to mow the lawn, trim the hedges or completely make-over your garden, I'm always happy to discuss your needs and provide a quote. I have qualifications in Organic Gardening and Urban Food Gardening as well as Gardening & Landscape Design, along with a wealth of practical experience.
