Well that was an enjoyable half day workshop at Shipbourne primary school for their Roman topic on history day.
Hysterical History delivered our newest workshop, Here comes the Romans focusing on Anglo Romans with help from Rufus Vulpus Britannicae the Roman centurion.
Activity wise we all had a go at the Testudo with others pelting us with ballista. We looked at what Romans brought to Britain and also sent away. How to build a bridge across the thames for soldiers and also how to wipe your bum with a communal sponge. Mainly kids laughed at the fact my trousers kept falling down!
Off to Tonbridge this morning for a half day workshop with our Roman soldier, Rufus Vulpus Britannicae to teach school chikdren all about Romans in Britain. The usual fun shall be delivered I can assure you!
After our WW2 appearances this weekend just gone we have had some nice invites to other places with a booking tonight to visit a Dartford care home to show and tell about WW2 evacuees, life in the Royal Engineers bomb squad and share our popular stupid Grandad stories.
Some shots sent to us from yesterday at the Faversham in the Forties - D Day 80 Years Commemorations.
When I say it was busy yesterday in Faversham I think this moment captured it best!
Literally so many fantastic comments and feedback rolling in still so thankyou!
Oooh got a mention on BBC News yesterday!
Faversham hosts 1940s-themed event to mark D-Day The event will focus on the experiences of those at home during the war.
A big thank you to Faversham, Kent for today's amazing attendance to the Faversham in the Forties - D Day 80 Years Commemorations.
The hundreds of people to our tent to hear about life in the bomb squad during WW2 made me break my own record of 9 hours without a wee.
The people who appreciated my delivery of our workshop via buying me a near constant flow of coffee was very much appreciated though maybe not by my bladder.
The flow of amazing feedback has been amazing both to my face, via messaging and emails and I was especially humbled today to hear how members of the public on numerous occasions asked the organisers "Where's the bomb disposal guy?" If you attended and you enjoyed it please keep telling me....my ego is close to bursting🤣
It's been a busy weekend and although it's an end to the WW2 gigs for a week or so, we're next jumping back 1900 years to be a Roman.
Here we go, I suspect this will be the busier show of the weekend
So much to look forward to today here in Market Place and Court Street, Faversham.
FAVERSHAM IN THE FORTIES 10-4pm
We have entertainment all day from Swing 64 Club and the lovely ladies from Blitz n Pieces Band 12.30-1.30pm History and Folkestone Swing Jive Class
Remembrance Parade at 11.50am by The Mayor 1242 Faversham Squadron Air Cadets and Army Cadets.
We look forward to seeing you, wear your 1940's attire and step back in time for the day with us. 🇬🇧
Our workshops not just for kids, the adults always want to try and have a go too. Although we don't give badges as rewards to adults.
Well Longfield was a busy one!
So many evacuees looking for a free holiday...until they realised it was with their teacher🤣
Dartford incredibly busy albeit a short show. Big thankyou to vets helping, lots of public buying coffee and security staff. Dartford really does know how to embrace history!
Next we're off to Longfield for same again finishing about 10 tonight then a full day in Faversham tomorrow.
Today Hazel and Maple Class had a very special visitor come in to tell us all about the Great Fire of London!
We had a great time learning about the history behind this historic event!
Thank you Samuel Pepys
I think it's going to be a busy one!
Back in Dartford for Dartford Borough Council on Saturday for a DDAY inspired event in the town centre between 10 to 2. Pop along to have a go at defuzing a bomb with Lt Palmer of the WW2 Royal Engineers bomb squad. Learn how they had to clear the beaches before the soldiers could run up the beaches at Normandy.
An event organised by Cohesion Plus
Gravesend and Dartford Reporter CohesionPlus
We will be at Longfield's event for DDAY this coming Saturday evening with our Bomb Disposal workshop. A free event with quite alot to see apparently so why not pop along.
We're all set up and ready for a Primary School workshop on Samuel Pepys and the NOT so great fire of London in Gravesend today.
Lots of excited kids already wondering why Mr Pepys has come back to their school and most seem to know who I am.
Let the fun history commence!
This week is certainly busy with our first school workshop after the half term break to one school in by Samuel Pepys and his workshop 'Samuel pepys and the NOT so great fire of London' there's also a few mentions to be had about his visits to Gravesend and plenty of silliness as per Hysterical History usual mischievous ways.
Now, where did I put King Charles's head?....probably the same place I keep my numerous stock of rats!
Happy Dinosaur Day!
From Dr Digby Rocks and his School of Palaeontology. The only workshop provider to give free fossils to kids after they've learnt while having fun.
Got a whole weekend of WW2 and DDAY celebrations coming up!
Swing singers and bomb squads to gather for new 1940s festival The festival will honour 80 years since the D-Day landings with re-enactments, live music, vintage vehicles and a bomb disposal school.
Well next we are off to a local Gravesend school for a workshop on Samuel Pepys and the NOT so great fire of London. Which is rather timely today seeing as it was on this day that Charles 2nd was reinstated on the throne and guess who was sent to collect him? That's right Mr Pepys!
Morning spent in Brentwood Essex teaching a new Home ed group which look set to welcome us back for more.
Today we had Ancient Egyptians with Dr Digby Rocks and his School of Egyptology. Lots of fun was had and was great to meet some nice new people really appreciating what we did.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK!
Dunstable must love us!
We've been asked to return yet again to Dunstable for another showing of our Bomb Disposal workshop for a Dunstable Heritage day.
Last year we heard that that was bit as far as all the multiple bookings foe the Hight Street Action Zone but they keep coming back. You know a town appreciates what you do if they keep using you whereas I struggle a bit where I'm from as all the history providers are notoriously stuffy and uninspiring and there seems to be a real lack of history awareness or encouragement. Might move!
We are in fact in Milton Keynes prospectively the next day too for a look at Medieval monks and hospitals. Bonus
Was today that the notorious pirate, Captain Kidd was tarred and hung (was already dead I might point out!) on a gibbet at Tilbury point in Essex opposite Gravesend as a warning to all other pirates intending to cause acts of piracy what would happen if they did.
As a mark of respect we are flying the Jolly Roger which funny enough is within eye sight of the very place he was hung as Hysterical History can see It from our garden. The very fact we portray pirates from a place where there were more acts of piracy than ever in the Caribbean is quite special but I don't think any of the modern shipping need worry.
Looks interesting🤗
A very happy birthday to one of our all time favourite history heroes, Mary Anning who is one of the leading inspirations for our Dr Digby Rocks character. The Natural History museum wouldn't be what it was if it wasn't for her and her finds!
Happy 225th Birthday and instead of happy birthday sung we shall ofcourse sing "she sells sea shells on the sea shore"

Another school booking in today for a return visit to a private school in west Sussex that gets us in every year without fail.
We always run Dr Digby Rocks' School of Archaeology and Palaeontology for the pupils which they really get engaged with and we love visiting them each year as the previous year always tell the children we're about to teach hiw great the workshop is and how much they learn and ofcourse have fun.
It's a real pleasure also to get comments like this in the email "Our children always absolutely love your workshops, they are so memorable!" when feedback can be hard to get.
Another confirmed booking in today for Dr Digby Rocks School of Archaeology with a focus on Egyptians for a primary school in Ashford in Kent.
Best order up more badges I think!
Someone has been busy nosing about our page.
Booking in this morning for a year's time to help a local charity and residential house celebrate VE DAY foe their residents.
As we move forward in history there's less and less people that actually remember it 😔
