We are delighted to announce that our pupils who attend 'As You Are Acting Academy' at Hilden Oaks, have ALL passed their recent LAMDA exams with DISTINCTION! The children have been working hard in their after school group classes, which provide a safe and friendly environment for them to explore all areas of speech and drama - poetry, acting and speaking in public.

Well done to Amy Swan and her team at 'As You Are!' and congratulations to all the children on achieving such phenomenal results.

What a mega term we have had with 49 students taking LAMDA exams, incredible results, festival wins and gala performances, but most importantly- happy & confident little faces!

The academy meets one Sunday a month to work on advanced acting skills and will support and contribute to your current classes and passion for the arts. Guest directors and tutors will us for one off TV & film, stage and Shakespeare workshops. Performance opportunities, annual showcase & group LAMDA exams.

Scarlett!

Scarlett made her professional debut as a performer at the age of seven as Young Cosette in Les Miserables at The Palace Theatre, London and then in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at The London Palladium. Scarlett completed four contracts making magic with the mouse as a performer for Disney Cruise Line travelling all over the world. To the delight of all her friends with babies she is the voice of the Play Together Panda Linkimal for Fisher Price! 🐼

Scarlett teaches musical theatre at one of the top dance schools in the area, Associates, and runs her own children's theatrical agency Scarlett & Co, representing professional young actors in the South-East. Scarlett has been teaching musical theatre and vocal coaching for almost 10 years, with many students appearing in theatre, film and television from West End productions to Netflix movies and prime-time tv shows.

Most recently, Scarlett's 10 & Under Musical Theatre troupe at Associates, Tonbridge won a National Title again (2019 & 2022) and were honoured to be asked to dance in the All England Dance Gala. Scarlett holds a professional chaperone license and works regularly on large scale productions, both theatre and film most recently Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical and Disney's Snow White.

As You Are Productions was founded in 2018 by performer and drama teacher Amy Nicholls who was inspired by the children she teaches to create a new piece of theatre for them to perform. After the success of her pioneering production 'Step into the Time Pod' with roles originated by the pupils of Hilden Oaks School, Amy decided creating theatre for children was a pretty fun way to spend her time!

A last minute change of plans due to broken ankles (break a leg has a whole new meaning!) saw Amy enlisting the help of long-time friend Scarlett and the As You Are! Dream Team was born.

Amy and Scarlett met whilst at Kent College, Pembury, (their favourite place in the world!) both spending the majority of their time devising in a dark theatre, directing Year 8 Drama club or rifling through costumes in the drama wardrobe. This was where their joint love for theatre and teaching began to flourish and they are thrilled to be back working together again!

Both are fully CRB checked with professional chaperone licences as are any assistants during production week.

Let us introduce ourselves! 😊

First up…Amy!

Amy is in her tenth year of teaching drama and brings a wealth of experience to her students. After training at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) Amy began her journey teaching Speech & Drama to 4- 18 year olds. Amy went on to work for CUNARD travelling the world and continuing her teaching career including line-dancing and Ballroom & Latin. After returning to land Amy has been teaching for various dance schools, primary and secondary schools. Amy has extensive knowledge and experience performing Shakespeare and many other genres of theatre.

Amy has a drive to bring the arts to all children as it gives individuals a key foundation of technique and discipline, whilst encouraging imagination and confidence. Amy has 100% pass rate for all her LAMDA students most recently gaining 100% Distinctions in a recent exam session with 4 students gaining full marks!

After starting up As You Are! Productions, Amy has developed a passion for writing original shows for children and reinventing famous stories with a twist. "Working with Scarlett is a dream come true and I hope our passion and friendship will inspire our students to come away knowing that anything is possible".
