The Guild of Pastoral Psychology offers a rich forum for anyone interested in understanding the relationship between spirituality, religion and depth psychology, with particular reference to the work and writings of C.G.Jung.

24/07/2024

Our civilisation is demonstrably heading for disaster, driven by our “disenchantment of the world” (Max Weber), “monotheism of consciousness” (C.G. Jung) and “left hemisphere dominance” (Iain McGilchrist).

Decade after they have been shared, do these statements resonate with your impressions of our time? Well, you're not alone.

The Guild of Pastoral Psychology 2024 Summer Conference, livestreamed from Oxford, will offer ways for a shift in our broken relationships with our nature(s), through healing and meaning, with the wonderful Andrew Fellows and Yuriko Sato, Jungian Analysts.

Our speakers will take you on a 3-day journey that will bring you deep insights into what can be called the defining challenge of our time and our zeitgeist. Owing much to analytical psychology, the approach they will bring forward will show how to transcend this challenge and re-enchant our world from within.

To book now and enchant us with your presence, head to: https://www.guildofpastoralpsychology.org.uk/event/2024-summer-conference/

The next Guild Webinar will be on Saturday 22nd June 2024 at 2pm.
The title is Makeda, The Black Queen of Sheba.

Click below for more and to book -

https://www.guildofpastoralpsychology.org.uk/event/makeda-the-black-queen-of-sheba/

Here is more about he session.

“I fell because of wisdom but was not destroyed: through her I dived into the great sea, and in those depths I seized a wealth bestowing pearl … I marvelled at that light and grasped it, and brought it up to the sun. I laid hold upon it and will not let it go.” Words spoken by Makeda the Queen of Sheba found in the Kebra Negast, the sacred text of Ethiopia.
Taking seriously the promptings of the unconscious as manifested in dreams, in particular one which was synchronous with the finding of an Ethiopian silk scarf, I began to research the Queen of Sheba. I had found a story and an archetype that I felt wanted attention.
The images of that scarf tell the story of the Queen of Sheba’s visit to the Court of King Solomon. In this presentation I will use the orientation of Jungian depth psychology to shed some lunar light into the Biblical, mythical and historical remoteness of this Queen. I hope to respectfully lift a veil and offer a hint of this feminine divine archetype.
The Queen of Sheba is described as an ‘explorer of heart’, it is clear from the story that she has the courage of a lion and yet there is also an obvious humbleness as she searches for wisdom. I believe she underlies inner feminine nature of the heart’s desire and stirs the heart of both men and women therefore needs to be lovingly attended.
In the legend printed on the scarf the Queen of Sheba initiates a meeting with King Solomon, they meet as equals and from their union, a coniunctio, new life is born.

The Speaker is Tricia Harragin here is what she says about herself:

I first qualified as a counsellor in 1994. I continued my training at Re.Vision (Counselling & Psychotherapy with a Soulful Perspective) and completed the Re.Vision Diploma in Psychotherapy in 2008. After a number of years in private practice, much to my surprise my dreams led me to Switzerland where I trained as a Jungian Analyst. I graduated from the Research and Training Centre for Depth Psychology According to C G Jung and Marie Louise von Franz, Zurich in 2022. I live in Stroud, Gloucestershire, where I continue in private practice.

Gaia and the Tree of Life
Dr Stephan Harding

Date: Saturday 7th January 2023 Webinar
5:30pm - 7:30pm

to book go to https://www.guildofpastoralpsychology.org.uk/event/gaia-and-the-tree-of-life/

The Tree of Life is an ancient image that comes to us from deep within psyche. It has appeared across different cultures and throughout the ages. It has enabled many individuals to realise that their true happiness is inseparable from the well-being and health of nature, of Gaia, of our living earth.
Greek myths tell us that Gaia was the first born of primordial Chaos and that she gave birth to the starry heavens and then to all the beings here on earth. She is the mother of us all, including the Tree of Life.
In this talk we’ll explore whether the power of the myths and images of Gaia and The Tree of Life can help us harness the imaginative possibilities in the contemporary sciences of Gaia to solve our terrible contemporary global crisis. Together we’ll enquire whether this might enable us to embed ourselves in the living body of our sacred animate earth, open to its richness and ready to act in service of all her beings, peacefully and democratically.

Dr Stephan Harding holds a doctorate in behavioral ecology from the University of Oxford. He Coordinated the MSc in Holistic Science at Schumacher College for almost two decades and has been the College’s resident ecologist and tutor since its inception in 1991. He has worked and taught alongside many of the world’s leading ecological activists, thinkers and writers, including Fritjof Capra, Brian Goodwin, Lynn Margulis, and James Lovelock, with whom he has collaborated scientifically for a number of years. Stephan is highly acclaimed around the world for his electrifying and deeply inspiring talks and lectures on the themes of Gaia theory, ecophilosophy and sustainable living. He is the author of Animate Earth (2009) and Gaia Alchemy (2022)

The Guild of Pastoral Psychology | Jung’s Black Books 05/01/2022

Join us this Saturday, 8th January, as we welcome back George Bright who spoke to the Guild in March 2019 on Jung’s Red Book. George is an analytical psychologist who has worked in private practice for thirty years. In 2016 he co-founded with two colleagues, The Circle of Analytical Psychology to develop ways of studying Jung’s Red Book/Liber Novus in small committed groups over a six term period.
The Black Books are Jung’s contemporaneous and spontaneous record of his unique ‘confrontation with the unconscious’ between 1913-1932. They contain his records of his active imaginations and descriptions of his mental states together with his immediate reflections on these. This is the primary material on which The Red Book draws.
