Annnnnnd that's the last job complete until we are back in the office on the 11th October!

As you may know (or may not know!), we are in Japan for 2 weeks as of Monday 25th, so we'll be unable to take any calls/requests until we're back on UK soil. 🎌✈️

We're celebrating hard: we founded the company in May and we've already hit 103 clients! It's a HUGE deal for us, and we're thanking everyone from the bottom of our hearts for helping us establish such a wonderful client base.

The hours have been long, and we've worked into the early morning sometimes, but we're always keen to make sure we provide the best possible service within the comfort of your own home.

We never stop at AstroByte!

We had a phone call this week with a client saying their PC was displaying no signal, and that it was running exceptionally slow which was believed to be down to dust. So we popped round today to take a quick look, and to our surprise, the PC was surprisingly clean considering it's still on DDR2! In the non-tech lingo, that's old!

After some quick diagnosis and a peak inside the case, we learnt the the CPU was manufactured in 2008 and we did our best to attempt to speed the PC up and rectify the "no display" problem.

Safe to say, we had ultimate success. However, we did advise our client that they should probably upgrade relatively soon! 😅

Another job completed!

We had the pleasure of taking the data from an old, sluggish computer with plenty of faults and installing a shiny and new system!

The computer my client had before was just over ten years old, and they decided to put in a brand new replacement. 🤓

Safe to say, it’s a huge upgrade and we even managed to source them an excellent monitor with the specific requirements they had. 🚀🚀

We have been getting a good chunk of new PC jobs come in recently. We had this old all-in-one PC where all of the computer components are built into the chassis. Which not only makes it a pain to work on, but also they've got a fair amount of weight to them!

With a budget of £400, we supplied and fitted a new PC tower, monitor, internet solution and new peripherals.

Our client is dead chuffed with the massive upgrade!

Here’s a fantastic example of a scam.

Received an email from “HMRC” saying I was due a tax rebate and everything looked pretty genuine… until I opened the email.

Can you spot where this scammer went wrong?

Our client described this one as "spreading like liquid" when she accidentally damaged her screen!

Have you ever noticed that, for example, you crack a screen and try to press it on it, it ripples a bit like a wave and sometimes goes an incandescent colour and/or black? This is because it puts stress on the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display; which was actually invented in Hull!).

Of course we don't advise doing this as you risk breaking other components in the device. 😅

This is going to be one of our repairs this week when the parts arrive. Another busy week for the team at AstroByte!

It happens to the best of us 🤦‍♂️

We like admitting when we make a boo-boo as it marks a learning curve when there’s something to be taken away from it.

Here we have a notorious Apple product called the 7th Gen iPad. Unfortunately in this instance during a repair, upon removal of the screen… it cracked.

This is 100% our fault and something we admit to. I personally believe that admitting to a fault builds trust with the client.

This will be fixed at our cost and the client will receive a discount on the final bill as a gesture of good will.

Remember: stay humble and hold your hand up when you make a mistake!

A bit of an interesting job this one 🫣

The client had reported their laptop screen had gone completely faulty, which as you can see in this picture, that blue line is the only visible part of the screen!

What do you think the issue is? We’ve already sussed it, but we are keen to hear what people think. 😄

Hint: it’s not the screen. 🤓

Last night, we was busy putting the ‘Astro’ in AstroByte where we was invited to go down to the East Yorkshire Astronomy Club and experience a 20” telescope!

We had a great view of Vega and Casiopea.

It’s quite rare we get to setup a brand new laptop but we had the lovely pleasure of doing so this week!

We transferred the data across from an old laptop to a brand new one, complete with updates, privacy filter, a very epic AstroByte approved sticker and our general service plan.

In the process, we managed to save an old laptop that had seen what we describe as the “death wheel” when a device first starts up.

We had a nice repaste job last week when a graphics card was overheating.

We ran our diagnostics tool to check if the card was faulty and if it was bottlenecking anywhere.

After that, we repasted it and checked if the fans were still operational under load. We found a few issues and rectified them.

Another graphics card saved which means money has been saved! 😎✨

Our new website is coming in in leaps and bounds! And we also got these awesome holographic stickers made up that are only a few centimetres in size, designed by me. ✌️

We use these stickers after we’ve completed a job; similar to the ones you see on a laptop from Intel/AMD.

As for the website, we are making it shinier and easier to navigate. More details to come soon!

We found ourselves inside an old HP Pavilion laptop this week where it was reported it would power on, but not display an image.

After we meticulously took it apart, including the big green block we call the motherboard over on the left there, we determined the fault to be numerous small things that contributed to a larger gremlin!

After fixing the issue, we handed it back to the client after a software and hardware clean up, privacy filter applied, fully charged and our amazing, but comes-as-standard, delivery service!

Safe to say, he was over the moon. He thought he'd lost the pictures of his wife forever. ☺️

Here's some before and afters of a gents laptop we repaired a few weeks ago...

A client accidentally damaged his laptop, causing the upper housing/screen to come unhinged away from the bottom housing. Thankfully, his laptop was still in working condition.

Within 24h, we had the laptop repaired, cleaned up, fully charged, serviced and back in his hands with a fully detailed report included. Now that's what we deemed a stellar service! ☄️
