How to keep on eye on your heart health ❤️
Using affordable and easy to use instruments, there are 3 simple measurements you can take in the comfort of your own home, that can give you an indication on your heart health. Whilst sub-optimal levels don’t mean that you have heart disease, taking these routinely every 1-2 months can give you an indication of any changes in heart health among other things. The focus should be on what YOUR ‘normal’ levels are. The value in taking these readings regularly is that you can identify significant changes in YOUR ‘normal’ levels. Note: all these measurements should be taken when you’re resting. 1️⃣ Oxygen saturation: Using a pulsoximeter, you can measure the oxygen saturation of the blood🩸. A score of 95-100% is considered normal and 92% or lower can indicate a seriously low level of oxygen and medical help should be sought. 2️⃣ Blood pressure: using an automatic sphygmomanometer, you can measure your blood pressure 💓. These instruments provide 2 readings, one reading is the blood pressure when your heart is contracted (this is the higher number) and the other reading is when your heart is relaxed (lower number). A normal reading would range between 100-130 for the higher number and 60-90 for the lower number. Numbers outside this range could indicate the heart isn’t working properly, but can also suggest other issues such as hormonal imbalances, stress, illness etc. 3️⃣ Heart rate: is how many times your hearts beat per minute (bpm)⏱️. Both the above instruments measure your heart rate. A normal adult heart rate is between 60 and 100 bpm, but what’s ‘normal’ is different for everyone because of their age, health and lifestyle. People who do lots of exercise typically have a resting heart rate below 60. If you would like any more information, or are concerned about any readings you take at home, either get in touch with us or your GP. #nationalheartmonth #healthyheart #hearthealth #healthiswealth

Long Covid & osteopathy
BBC Look North marked 2 years since that very first lockdown with stories of how Covid has affected different people in different ways. Castle Clinic and our amazing osteopath Charlotte were featured helping the very brave Katy who’s life has been turned upside down by long Covid.

The other day Seb had a niggling low back. With none of his colleagues on hand to help, he thought it would be a good idea to get his youngest son to treat him with some Thai massage styled techniques. The lesson of the video: if you have a bad back, see an expert. Since this blooper, he’s seen colleague Dan Ortega Bowen for treatment of his low back (and headache 😂) and is now feeling much better. If you are struggling with any niggles or pain you can book now on our website: www.osteopathyinknaresborough.com
