During the sessions this half term we are working on our upper body muscles. This was a small movement but big inner muscles extension session. We started with a simple breathing practice that soothed our nerves, boosted air exchange efficiency as well as working on belly muscles. Then we did a series of floor to soften our body before engaging in a flow of small movements that exercising the inner muscles. We ended with a simple but very inner calming relaxation.
During the 5 sessions this half term we are working on our upper body muscles. This was a special poetic session, as I combined poetry with yoga once or twice per year in the sessions. This time I employed Bashō's haiku to construct the flow sequence. We started with a simple breathing practice that soothed our nerves, boosted air exchange efficiency as well as working on belly muscles. Then we did a series of floor to soften our body. We practiced the flow sequence before combining the whole thing with sets of haiku poems. We ended with a simple but very inner calming relaxation.

During the 5 sessions this half term we are working on our upper body muscles. We are aiming to connect our awareness to the muscles, to feel our muscles, and to strengthen our muscles. We start with a simple breathing practice that soothes our nerves, boosted air exchange efficiency as well as working on belly muscles. Then we did a series of floor and standing flow that relaxed the body first and then worked out the body in a gentle way. We ended with a simple but very inner calming relaxation.

We are looking into our spine for 5 sessions, though all the sessions are full body work. This was the final session working on the lowest spine section in the sacrum. First a breathing practice followed by a series of floor exercises to soothe and soften our body as well as to be aware of how the sacrum is moving within us, then a gentle flow to relax our sacrum and pelvis, finally a great relaxation with a deepening inhalation breathing method to calm our nerve system down.

We are looking into our spine for 5 sessions, though all the sessions are full body work. This was the third session getting to feeling the mechanism between shoulders and chest spine. First a breathing practice followed by a series of floor exercises to soothe and soften our body as well as to be aware how shoulders relate to the chest spine, then a gentle flow to lighten and soothe our shoulders, finally a great relaxation with a deepening inhalation breathing method to calm our nerve system down.

We are looking into our spine for 5 sessions, though all the sessions are full body work. This session paid attention to our neck in particular. First a breathing practice followed by a series of floor exercises to soothe and soften our body, then a couple of awareness exercises to feel our neck spine, followed by simple but feel good gentle flow, finally a great relaxation with a deepening inhalation breathing method to clam our nerve system down.

Happy New Year! Before Bedtime Yoga is back on Wednesday evenings! This session was a gentle start to tune us back to yoga mode. We are starting to work and understand our spine during these 5 sessions, though all the sessions are full body work. This session spent a lot of time tuning into our body sensation and to feel the inner movement of our bones and muscles. First a breathing practice followed by a series of floor exercises to soothe and soften our body, then some simple but feel good gentle flow, finally a great relaxation with a deepening inhalation breathing method to clam our nerve system down.

I have always emphasise the importance of our feet and how we use them. But the feet reveal far more than our physical and structural wellbeing. Here is a lovely article letting out some light on the secrets of feet beyond the physical.
I Always Pause and Look at Students' Feet Before I Teach Yoga. Here's Why A yoga teacher explains why she turns her gaze downward before the start of class—and it's not for the reasons you might think.
This was the fifth session on the lower body, and we worked on lower body muscles and balance. We started with a soothing breathing practice and a series of gentle movements on the floor. Then we did a great self-massage to relax ourselves. We stood to do a sequence of squats and warrior 3 as the end pose before a nice relaxation.

This was the fourth session on the lower body, and we work particularly with the foot arches. We started with a soothing breathing practice and a series of gentle movements on the floor. This was the third session on the lower body. We started with a soothing breathing practice and easy and gentle floor exercises to prepare our bodies for the yoga movements later. We practiced how to stabilise our upper body while working on our legs. Then we worked on our tree pose and some fun twist at the end of it. Before we settled for the relaxation, we practiced a gentle form of pelvic floor exercise, then a truly rewarding relaxation. This session works on stability and balance.

This was the second session on the lower body. We started with a soothing breathing practice and easy and gentle floor exercises to soften our bodies. I explained the importance of using the 3 balls of our feet efficiently and used fun exercises to demonstrate my point as well as to train our leg muscles. This session had a lot of small and interesting movements for the feet and for the whole body too.

Very nicely put. "Yoga is a highly internal practice.
Being able to do hard asanas does not mean you are an advanced practitioner...but knowing when you shouldn't do them, and being able to find asanas that make your body feel stable, strong, and healthy, that help you balance your mind, and that help you develop resilience in your nervous system - those are the signs of a truly advanced practice."
https://www.facebook.com/259933874379/posts/10160067112239380/?flite=scwspnss
There's really no correlation between your capacity to do challenging ("advanced") poses and how your body feels.
There are plenty of people who can do hard asanas - but many of them are also in pain. And there are plenty of people who can't do difficult poses but are not in pain.
After years of dysfunctional practice, many people quit because of pain and decide that yoga is not for them.
Then they have to spend years rehabbing from the damage.
Difficult poses are more like performance art, if you can do them without any pain, good for you - but it's actually rare.
While poses like this one are used to suggest that the practitioner is advanced, in good shape, has a strong mind, and feels great, that's not always the case.
There's a dark side.
There are strong correlations between hypermobile joints and pain.
So many practitioners have hurt themselves from continuing to practice despite the body's strong messages of pain.
This may be because westerners have bought into the idea that hard poses are the goal. But this is inaccurate.
Yoga is not an external practice where the form is the goal. and the harder the form the better.
Yoga is a highly internal practice.
Being able to do hard asanas does not mean you are an advanced practitioner...but knowing when you shouldn't do them, and being able to find asanas that make your body feel stable, strong, and healthy, that help you balance your mind, and that help you develop resilience in your nervous system - those are the signs of a truly advanced practice.
We start a new series of sessions on the lower body. We started with an extended outbreath breathing practice and easy and gentle floor exercises to soften our bodies. Afterwards we paid some particular attention to the toe exercises. Then we used a sequence of fun movements to work our whole body and particularly the lower body. We ended the session with a nerve soothing breathing relaxation. This was a fun and lively lower body session.

Yap, balance, balance and balance, from inner to outside actually.
Can you stand on one leg for 10 seconds? Why balance could be a matter of life and death – and how to improve yours Studies have shown poor balance can be associated with serious health problems – as well as increased risks of falls as we get older. But there are ways to make yours better
This was a breathing and gentle backbend session. We started with slow breathing practice and easy and gentle floor exercises to soften our bodies before introducing full or half locust movement. Then we did a few simple movements with relaxing breaks in between. We finally combined slow breathing with the simple movements. We ended the session with a lovely relaxation. This was a simple, but poses can feel strong, session.

This was a bone-feeling session on the backbend, working to understand the relationship between the leg positions and the spine. We started with easy and gentle floor exercises to soften our bodies and increase sensitivity to our spine. Then we did a few awareness exercises to understand how leg positions affect our spine. Once we grasped the spine feeling and leg position, we did a few poses that enhanced our “bone-feeling” as well as our breathing. We ended the session with a lovely relaxation. This was a subtle and inward looking session with a lot of fun in understanding oneself.

We are working on breathing and movement coordination this half term. This session was a bit of a fun motion pose session. We started with a slow breathing practice for relaxation and circulatory efficiency. We did all the warm up exercises on the floor and then worked on a more technical pose in motion sideways half lotus and half camel pose on the floor. (And, yes, there is such a pose.) Afterwards we did a simple and gentle flow and combined it with slow breathing. It was a lovely practice for a dark night.

On a dark night, yoga.
The famous Yoga Sutras starts its first chapter like this: “And now the teaching on yoga begins.” It starts from half of a sentence. This particular manner is often interpreted that the teaching of yoga only begins when people, after working hard and could not find the way to spiritual enlightenment, drop down their effort, and then the true teaching starts. Whether this is true to the author’s intention or not, for me, today’s yoga session certainly feels like this. I have been buried under various work these days. Yet, after so many days of work, I still had much to be finished. Nevertheless I have Before Bedtime Yoga to teach. I came to the mat feeling my muscles tense; my mind tense, my emotion tense, my energy also tense. Essentially, nothing was right. As the zoom screen was on, I just dropped all my effort wanting to do more than what I could take in a day, and just breathed, feeling this life form on the mat, on the floor, its physical waves with the breaths. Although I was saying my instructions, inside of me I heard only silence of my mind, the letting go of my effort, the dropping of my whatever pursuit and came to a place where only appreciation existed for this body and mind that supported me throughout the day.
And, bliss, I am alive!
This is what yoga can do, when one is willing to give up all the outer entanglement for a while and just feel one’s existence as a pure life, breathe, move, and become still.
It was my privilege and my pleasure
to do yoga with everyone at today’s session, to share this mindbody connecting moment, to feel the night is drawing in, and one’s soul is a perfect smooth circle to round the day.
Everybody wrote to me after the class that they felt so relaxed afterward and ready to go to bed, and me too! :)
We are working on breathing and movement coordination this half term. This was a backbend awareness and gentle backbend session. We had very nice floor exercises to soften the body and an awareness exercise to understand what backbend is really about in terms of the spine. We also worked on our breathing for relaxation, circulatory efficiency and simple standing movement to combine with breathing breathing practice.
